How does it work?

I’m 52, perimenopause has added the dreaded tyre round my waist. I’ve always been a bit of an apple shape, but this has gone into overdrive. I’ve put on around 2.5 extra stones. I eat healthily and do not overeat. I don’t drink lots of alcohol (like I may have a bottle of wine and a couple of spirits a month if you added it all up). I keep seeing lots of posts on insta about cortisol levels and find I’m already doing all the things they say will help (eating lots of veg, seeds, protein, healthy fats etc and walking, weight three times a week and I do yoga or Pilates 3-4 times a week also). It is extremely depressing and frustrating. I don’t know what else I can do! So now I’m wondering about these jabs. Will they help? Do they just make you lose weight simple because you don’t want to eat, or is there something within the medication itself that makes you lose weight? I’m at my wits end!

The medication does not melt the fat away, they help you to make better food choices and reduce your food intake by removing the food noise most of us who are obese suffer from and by slowing down the rate your stomach empties so make you feel full for longer.
If you already eat well, they won't do anything different for you.
Have you calculated your TDEE and then tracked everything you eat to check you are in a calorie deficit?

You need a BMI of over 30 to be prescribed them.

They make you feel full much quicker and also make you not really fancy eating much.

I never think about food and the weight drops off as I'm eating so much less.

So if you already eat well and exercise, and are not one of life’s ‘snackers’ or someone who is constantly thinking about (or consuming) food, these jabs won’t really do anything to help?

Mounjaro will reduce your appetite and make you feel fuller for longer, so it can enable you to stick to a lower calorie total than you might otherwise manage without it, due to constant hunger. At the moment, you're presumably eating a maintenance amount of calories. To lose weight you need to be in a constant deficit, and the Mounjaro can support you to do that.

If you read the continuing mounjaro thread and one or two of the long standing threads on here you will find a variety of other peoples experience of Mounjaro and other weight loss injections. Alternatively you could book a consultation with a pharmacy like Oushk (who offer (paid for) consultations and could answer questions related to your specific situation. That way you can make a choice that’s right for you.

I say it a lot, but I highly recommend tracking your calories, in their entirety. Not to change anything yet, but just to see!!

even ‘good’ foods have a lot of calories and most people can’t accurately guess their portions correctly. I didn’t.

oils, seeds, nuts and ‘healthy’ fats stack up quick!!

It would help with portion control, you are putting on weight like this for a reason, and the fact it isn’t snacking to be honest is irrelevant, it would be more likely portion control. It helps you not over eat.

They'll help by you eating less. I've always eaten well and exercised.

Now I still eat well but I eat less.

I've lost enough weight now though so am going to come off it soon and maintain by keeping the smaller portions.

I love it. Haven't felt this good in a long time.
