Anyone taking Mounjaro who has Diverticulitis?

I have a BMI of 34 and after trying weight loss programmes (not very successfully), would like to try Mounjaro. However, I have diverticulitis (not flared for a long time but I get strange stomach aches). I also have to really watch what I eat and I have to eat quite a bit otherwise I become badly constipated.

I'm anxious about the effect that food moves more slowly through the gut on Mounjaro but I've also read that it's showing good results for inflammation.

Has anyone taken it with diverticulitis?

I have IBS and it has really settled my symptoms since I've been on it, because of slowing down food transit its ideal for IBS-D. With diverticulitis the concern is if food moves slower could you get more food trapped in the outpouches in the mucosa and so higher risk of infection? I'm a biomedical scientist and actually dissect diverticular colons, don't mean to concern you, but worth asking GP just in case.

Sorry can’t be that much help as no bowel condition but have been on MJ for 18 weeks and generally feel positive about it but it has done all sorts of funny things to my digestion across the full range of diarrhea, cramps, sulphur burps and farts to constipation, at various points and not in a predictable way. Any significant effects have generally been short lived and confined to the first 2-3 days after injecting (apart from the constipation which at times has been more persistent)

I have been on it since mid Sept and have diverticulitis. I have had no flares up but I do avoid foods which I know aggravate it. I have suffered diahorrea and bad sulphur burps but not to an extreme level. It has definitely levelled out for me in terms of side effects. Good luck.

Thank you, I'll need to take some advice from the GP I think.

I was about to start the same thread. I have diverticulitis and I'm desperate to lose weight. I'm managing my condition with probiotics and stool softeners. Can't help thinking that it's bound to mess my guts up.

@saveforthat, I was thinking i'd need to take Movicol or something like that regularly alongside. Probiotics are a good idea too.

Did you go on Mounjaro? I want to go on it, and have just been diagnosed with Diverticular disease but that was only picked up when I had a colonoscopy. I always thought I had IBS. Did you speak to a GP? I imagine that’s not as easy as it sounds. Thanks!

I have diverticulosis and have been on Mounjaro for a year with only one bout of severe constipation. But at this moment I went out of town without taking my second shot with me because I was supposed to be home in a week and I didn't want to bring my injection with me but things changed and I had to stay behind an extra week and I may have diverticulitis right now. I read that it may exacerbate the problem with the slow moving out out of food. And I'm going on vacation for one month to a warm climate in Europe and refrigerators aren't always guaranteed in the rooms. Last year I went on vacation and took one injection with me in an insulin container and that kept it cool for a few days and I'm thinking I took my previous injection earlier in the week
at that time so I didn't have any problems when I went off for 2 weeks after the last injection I brought along. But I think I really screwed up my timing this time and I think since I already missed 2 weeks, I might as well stay off for the next month. This diverticulitis I'm experiencing right now is a mild flare up from constipation, but I don't want to spend my vacation time in pain in case this shot I would take tonight before going on vacation in 2 days may make it worse. I'll just start over again in a month. So to answer your question, if you have diverticulosis but not diverticulitis at the moment you should be fine because my gastroenterologist never told me not to take it. I never had a problem once I was on the medication with having diverticulitis flare-ups. This current flare up was just due to dehydration, bad eating choices while on the road, and constipation. I had my white blood cell count tested a few days ago and it's slightly elevated so I do have a slight infection there.

I have just read that if you have diverticular disease, you should not use glp1 Mounjaro due to changes with bowel habit, sadly i was unaware of this and had an awful flare up and still not right, gutted as had lost 2stone in 8wks but not worth the risk of serious complications, I will have to try it by will power alone

My wife has diverticulitis and went onto mounjaro. Her symptoms stopped and she had no adverse effects or events. Mounjaro has unfortunately become financially inviable so she has had to stop. Her diverticulitis pain/ symptoms are back, read into that what you will, but I'm convinced that mounjaro relieved her symptoms of diverticulitis
