Is anyone doing another diet alongside a WLI?

I have done every diet going over the years. I have lost 3 stone each time (maybe 4 times in my life)....but it has always come back on with my impulsive emotional mindless eating. I am now on BP and cholesterol tabs.

I was thinking should I do WLI and something like SW to get healthy?

It's not possible to lose weight on MJ without being on a diet.
I personally don't think SW is healthy as it encourages you to avoid healthy fats. I'm calorie counting and just trying to eat lots of protein and veg.
MJ helps you diet - that's the point of it. I don't mean to sound rude but there is a lot of misinformation about it at the moment.

I’m sure folks do, but I prefer just calorie counting and a deficit of 500 cals.

I’ve done SW and all the others and I’m personally not a fan of ‘free’ and ‘syn’ foods. It hasn’t worked for me and I think its very easy to over consume things that actually have calories (I used to mainline pasta back in the old Red/green days!!).

i want as close to a normal relationship with food so i’m trying to understand calories, what is a reasonable portion and still eating ‘treat’ foods so things dont become forbidden.

i’m still a massive advocate for slower weightloss too - for health reasons (gallstones/pancreas issues, loose skin and energy!) and thats easier when you track calories. I want this to be the last time I lose weight and I still want to live!

sure lots of folks have different thoughts but I think MJ can be enough on its own without adding too many restrictions to food groups!

Everyone taking MJ is on a diet of some sort
Otherwise there's no point in taking it as it doesn't work

Adelstrop · 08/11/2024 13:40

If you like the approach of SW there is no reason not to combine it with MJ, but as other posters have said, you do need to diet to be in a calorie deficit. MJ helps you do that by curbing your appetite, but you could still overeat.

StrugglingAlways · 08/11/2024 14:32

What about VLCD - such as Cambridge - could you combine with that to kick start? I am worried about calorie counting as I am ADD.

I don't calorie count at all, just eat less and stick to healthy foods, not too many processed carbs/fried/fatty things, prioritise protein and veg/fruit.

Absolutely not. This is a really bad idea.

Can I suggest you read up on how these drugs actually work?

You need to be in deficit by around 500 calories per day. This will need monitoring. There are apps that will do it for you. If you don't eat enough, you can become very unwell.

BookishType · 08/11/2024 15:49

I’m not consciously dieting on MJ. But I do 18:6 as a matter of course (have done for years as I don’t eat breakfast) and if I was counting calories, they’d be well within limits.

I keto'd through MJ. I did eat lower fat that I would normally thought as on MJ I felt the nausea if I didn't eat plainly. I found MJ helped my diet stick. It helped enormously with my focus and determination.

Thats the impression I had - that it helps mentally / emotionally with the willpower so that what ever diet has "worked" for you in the past will be easier - I have done SW, VLCD and then 16:8 low carb - and lost the weight - but the derialed eventually once reached goal. So I would be happy to try one of those gain on MJ and then go on maintenace dose after?

@StrugglingAlways I like you have tried many types of diets over the years, some worked better than others, some were harder than others! But Keto is the one I've come back to time and time again and enjoy. All my past diets have needed a great deal of willpower and I didn't feel like I had much to give earlier this year. MJ really helped with that. I have been at goal weight for 2 months having lost 28% of my body weight on MJ. I stayed on the lowest dose throughout and I'm still taking it as my BMI isn't past the cut off. I plan to come off MJ eventually, but when I've put enough healthy changes in place. I'm now eating 80-100g carbs which feels about right.

You won't feel you need to go on a normal diet, OP; that's the beauty of it. You will feel full sooner and that feeling will last much longer. You won't want to eat large quantities; in fact, if you do, you will feel very uncomfortable.

I'm at home much of the day so I have something to eat at about 10 - 11 am and then something at about 4 - 5 pm, so essentially a shorter eating span. I don't have anything in the evenings - no wine, etc - I never give it a thought, even though I was used to have something every single night.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

This would make you very ill indeed.
Kindly I don't think you should be thinking of wli until you fully understand how they work. You are writing about "having an impression" of how it works. You need to know more, both to lose weight and to protect your health.

MounjaroUser · 08/11/2024 16:23

When I look at what's caused me to lose weight with WLIs is: no alcohol, no chocolate or cakes, not eating in the evening, just having two meals a day without a snack in between. I will be on Mounjaro for several months and hope that's a sustainable thing to keep up afterwards. I've lost 3 stone since June.

TidyDancer · 08/11/2024 16:36

You definitely shouldn't be following unhealthy diet plans on mounjaro (or at all really!). I've been using the injections since August and have naturally fallen into a pattern of eating that focuses on protein over carbs while keeping an eye on fat. It's worked for me so far but tbh being on mounjaro has meant I would've eaten within a deficit even if I hadn't been keeping track of things. I just wouldn't have wanted the excess calories.

ApolloandDaphne · 08/11/2024 16:42

I'm not following any diet on WLI. I'm just naturally eating less. I have no inclination to snack and my portions are smaller. I'm not counting calories and I am losing weight well. I'm going this in the hope that when i stop the injections I have just got into a new way of eating.

BackToWegovy · 08/11/2024 16:59

I am following the NoS diet. (No sugar, no snacks, no seconds). Really simple and it makes me want my meals to count so they are healthy. The WLIs make the meals smaller as there is only so much you can eat when they are working as they should.

FlappingMadly · 08/11/2024 17:52

Mounjaro gives you the opportunity to put in place a sustainable lifestyle. It is a good idea to count calories and weigh and measure things out just to have an idea what a 500/600 calorie meal looks like. And how many calories in a snack.
