Just curious as to how much the medication has/will cost everyone, especially with being able to switch providers and all the referral code schemes.

So far, I have purchased 5 pens in each strength between 2.5mg-12.5mg. However I luckily haven’t paid anywhere near full price due to referral codes! I’m also very close to healthy BMI, so overall it hasn’t been very expensive for me.

However finances will be tight going forward; unless I can get completely free pens, I’m probably going to have to go cold turkey and not take anything for maintenance. Just wondering how people are planning to budget for any ongoing costs once they have lost the weight.

I’ve paid full price for my 3/4 pens so far. I do not mind as I get a good service and help. I see it as paying for a service that is for a purpose - to lose weight and improve my health. My eating patterns have drastically changed, I am not buying alcohol, sweets, cakes or ready made meals thus I have easily saved the amount of the pens.
I don’t really begrudge this expense. In the absence of any NHS help there is no choice. I wouldn’t begrudge any payment that is for my health and longevity.

just under £400 (3 pens). I think one more pen will take me to my goal weight, and then need to decide how to handle maintenance.
i feel lucky that 2.5 was effective for me, and I don’t think I’m going to need to go higher than 5 to reach my goal weight.
a brilliant investment in my health: I’m so glad I went for it.

EBoo80 · 07/11/2024 13:17

I also moved away from suppliers with referral codes and was happy to abandon the potential savings for an easier life!

Redlightbulb · 08/11/2024 20:51

£520 so far for 4 pens and will be on this for at least another year.
So that's another £1,800 if my average going forwards is about £150 per pen.
(average so far per pen is £130 but that will increase as I move up the higher doses)
I have generally been shopping around for the lowest price pens using codes, without having to get a kickback touting out my own referral codes.
I am hoping as competition increases prices will come down, but a potential shortage in the new year worries me.

It's been 18 months so far at 150.00£ a month , so about £2k

WeAllHaveWings · 08/11/2024 21:34

2.5mg + 5mg bundle - £253
5mg - £134, £134 (delivered)
5mg - £132, £132 (pre ordered, still to be delivered)

So around £790 for 6 pens including P&P that will hopefully last me from late June 24 to mid Feb 25 (hoping I can continue on my 3.75mg dose and they cover 34 weeks - 5 to 6 doses per pen - meaning it has cost on average £23/week + needles/syringes/wipes).

I expect to be on it for minimum another 9 months. And have £1k set aside for it so far.

I could have got them cheaper from ZAVA (I've got several unused referral codes - 3 more this week even though I haven't posted mine since July 🤦🏻‍♀️), but I wanted set delivery dates and confidence pen would arrive chilled when previous ZAVA pens didn't.

I have so far bought two pens and spent £270. I have £90 credit for refers and price matching so my next pen will be cheap😊.

i have spent significantly less money on food, snacks, and takeaways! My shopping is £40 a week cheaper now - and save about £100 a month on lunches and coffees and treats at the office.

BUT - I am starting to get tempted by clothes shopping! I do have smaller clothes in my wardrobe but they are dated!! Over a stone down and my clothes feel baggy and frumpy.

CobaltRewind · 09/11/2024 08:45

I think I must be missing something as I thought you could only use a referral code once with your first order?

If you use multiple codes do you have to go through all the sign up stuff again and change suppliers?

Bellyblueboy · 09/11/2024 08:51

If someone else uses your referral code they get £40 off their first order and you get £40 credit with med express. That’s why so many post their codes on here😊.

two people have used my code which is lovely 🥰

How do you get a referral code with MedExpress? I have bought my first pen from them, but there was no mention of referral codes?

Bellyblueboy · 09/11/2024 10:02

If you log in it’s near the bottom of the first page. Referral scheme

TorturedParentsDepartment · 09/11/2024 11:00

I'm assuming I'm going to be on this indefinitely (I have a lot to lose). I've just had to mentally allocate around £200 of my monthly budget to it going forward.

If I can save in terms of not having food noise to an ignorable level it should balance out over time I hope.

CaninesC · 11/11/2024 15:33

I use ASDA with a 10% off code - £164.60 with delivery for my 5 mg pen at moment, which I take 5 doses from but order every 4 weeks so I will build up a small stock at home to cope with any potential delays/ supply issues. I’ve bought 6 pens so far - expect to be on MJ for 2 years + (inc. maintenance period). Just see it as a regular bill now.

40coats · 11/11/2024 17:35

I'm on ozempic, nothing else available where I am.
€116 every four weeks for a 1mg pen. Due to the way my prescriptions were written and not taking it while away on holidays I've built up a two month buffer. This could be handy if supply issues start or I need to increase my dose. I think I've spent approx €1250 since April. According to my calculations I'm actually saving money since starting. My food shop is reduced. I tend to eat out and get takeaways much less. We've also reduced our alcohol consumption and I think I'm doing less impulse buying.
Sometimes it's a conscious decision not to spend money eating out to recuperate the cost but mostly not it doesn't seem worth it as everything has got so expensive and isn't value for money. I don't turn down invites or anything just no longer invent reasons not to cook.

I put off starting this until I was certain I could afford to do it long term if necessary. I think now I shouldn't have worried.

unsync · 11/11/2024 18:06

I budget £350 per month for my health. This includes my prescription, my gym membership and any associated costs. As long as I'm within that, I'm OK with the cost. I view it as investing in my health and future.

starlight431 · 12/11/2024 21:22

Where do you get medexpress to price match with?

WeGoSlow · 12/11/2024 21:36

I now buy my Wegovy at Boots for the convenience of easily being able to collect it. I had to many stressful times of waiting for unreliable deliveries from other providers.

I pay £270 a month, it was much more expensive when I started 20 months ago. So I've probably paid over £6,000 so far.

I will reach maintenance in approximately 6 months time and then intend to stay on a maintenance dose.
