Mounjaro and 1:1 diet

TooMuchSnacking · 06/11/2024 17:44

I have had my first set of mounjaro delivered today - was a bit of a spontaneous decision/order following a lot of people's success around me.

I also have a lot of 1:1 (Cambridge diet) meal replacements left

Has anyone been on the 1:1 at the same time as the mounjaro?
How did it go?

Alternatively, am i better off storing the mounjaro in the fridge and not using it until I work my way through the 1:1 replacements?

I won't be throwing the replacements away as that's a total waste; it is literally whether I can run both together (other friends have said they're only eating 600-1000kcal, which is similar to the daily on 1:1)

Obviously open to any feedback etc - new to the thought of mounjaro, but am (sadly) well over the boundary of being approved for it...

30kg minimum to lose...

I’ve never done the 1:1 diet. What do the daily macros look like?

There’s no reason you can’t use up the replacements. They’re just food. Your biggest problem will be if they are too big a volume for you to manage to finish if you experience very high suppression from the start.

Daily macros?
If this is what you mean..... here is a screenshot from my nutritional tracker from yesterday...

They are generally a small portion, roughly 200kcal per replacement

Is that a full day? I would say the protein is too low and the carbs too high, particularly sugar (what is in those things?!). I would try to find some other sources of protein to have alongside.

WeAllHaveWings · 06/11/2024 18:55

I would be worried meal replacements are designed to fill you up and MJ is doing the same thing and you might not get the right nutrition/enough calories. You might find you go off them with MJ anyway.

You perhaps need to play it by ear depending on how you respond to MJ, but then you hit the issue of not knowing if the meal replacements are filling you up or MJ is suppressing your appetite.

Agree with @VelociraptorsVelociRapping that example if it is for the day needs more protein and less carbs/sugar. 600 calories is way too few for a day and not healthy.

Hi there,

I have done 1:1 and would personally not go on it again or combine with Mounjaro.

Firstly I was not happy with the amount of sugar in the products, too much. Not enough protein.

I would be concerned my general nutrition and calorie deficit (as well as protein needs) would be too low on 1:1

The products gave me diarrhoea (pretty much the whole time I was on 1:1 (nearly 6 months) which is common due to the high mineral content of the products. As diarrhoea is on the list as a common side effect with MJ, I would personally not want to do anything to aggravate a runny tum any further.

My metabolism suffered long term damage from doing 1:1 and I also had to have my gallbladder removed following horrendous gallstones, hospitalisations and life threatening infections which were a risk of 1:1 (and indeed any VLCD)

If had known the damage it would do I would never have done 1:1. Also the weight gain that followed was astronomical, due to the detrimental effect on metabolism I think.

You can sell remaining products on Ebay if you don’t want to be out of pocket.

Sorry for the mass tag - just wanted to say thank you for your replies; I hadn't even considered selling them on via eBay

In terms of weight gain after stopping 1:1, I've had a break of around 3 months and only put on 1kg (very poor diet and a lot of stress hasn't helped anything)

Definitely taking on board all the comments about the nutritional info; I guess I was working on the basis it's better than the shit I have been eating, and they advertise very well regarding it containing all of what you need.....

I hadn't heard about the gallstone issue with it - is that really common??

Hi, yes they sold me on the ‘it contains all the nutrition you need’ too but looking back at how my body processed (or was unable to properly process) those products and the daily diarrhoea, I doubt I was absorbing much of those nutrients. The loose tum was a known side effect to the concentrated /high mineral content, it felt like the majority of what I ate and drank (the 1:1 shakes) went straight down the lav.

Yeah gallstones / gallbladder disease is a known risk of the 1:1. It is in the booklet and should have been discussed with you by the consultant) but I was made to feel it was a low risk. I cannot say for certain that 1:1 caused the stones to form, all I know is I had zero gallbladder problems or symptoms beforehand and it when the gallstone attacks started it was the worst pain I’ve ever endured (much more than childbirth). I think if there had been stones or the beginnings of them before 1:1 it certainly accelerated/ worsened the situation.
Women are at much higher risk of gallstones / gallbladder disease than men and the risk increases with excess weight and being 40+.
All VLCD’s carry a gallstone risk unfortunately

TooMuchSnacking · 07/11/2024 12:07

@KeepCalmandGiveItaGo

Totally get what you're saying about nutrients not being absorbed with daily diarrhoea... but it hadnt really hit me as a thing other than an occasional episode of it; luckily not constant but more than it should be here

I genuinely don't remember the gallstones/gall bladder roof do bring mentioned, if only because all my family have suffered with it and would have really reconsidered/not started it.....

If you just want to use them up and are not planning on getting more, why not just use them as occasional breakfast / lunch on the go? I don't know much about 1:1 but I occasionally grab a bottle of Huel (ready to drink meal replacement) on my way to work if I know the day will be hectic and I'll struggle to get time for lunch. I wouldn't do it every day but here and there is fine as far as I'm concerned. This is not something that I've started to do since starting Mounjaro but something that I've done on and off for several years. Works for me.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 07/11/2024 12:54

Re: gallstones - as @KeepCalmandGiveItaGo says all VLCD carry a risk of gallstones, as does Mounjaro, I'm afraid. Weight loss is a known risk factor, as is being female, over 40, and close family history.

TooMuchSnacking · 07/11/2024 14:18

@Madickenxx that's a really good idea actually, thank you!
I think (stupidly) that had not occurred to me because it isn't "1:1 meal plan", but it certainly will help with the convenience, more so when i am or and about working!

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping 😔😔 i will just have to keep a close eye on it all i guess!

Shocked by how much salt and sugar is in those things! I am not surprised they give people the shits with so much sugar!!

Timetochange24 · 07/11/2024 20:54

I'd say you also need to increase your fibre. Mounjaro will slow down your digestion so you need to be eating plenty of fruit and veg (and water) which might be hard if your meal replacements are filling you up.

User364837 · 07/11/2024 20:57

Another one surprised at the sugar!
I would start and see how you feel.
i tried some huel shakes as I wanted to know I was getting what I needed nutritionally but I just couldn’t stomach them - too heavy, thick, filling and sweet. Mounjaro can really change what you fancy eating, but it’s different for everyone.

TooMuchSnacking · 08/11/2024 21:17

Amazing thank you all!

Decided I will start the mounjaro injections, and just use the 1:1 bits here and there for convenience of something to grab, but will integrate it in with a normal diet

I was surprised when I started mj at how suppressed my appetite was...

And i weight it all up, from opinions on this thread and others... i had so much product left, and i am ashamed to say I threw most of it out - it lived in a box on my kitchen side for just over a month, but i was craving real food... so i ended up throwing it 🙈
