Not hungry AT ALL, should I eat anyway?

I'm on day 1 of mounjaro, took the dose around 12 hours ago and have barely eaten all day. Less than 300 calories. I don't feel hungry, at all. What should I do? I didn't expect this, I almost feel full and I'm worried of if I eat a meal I will end up feeling ill/being sick, but at the same time, I know I need to eat more than I have

Firstly, I would join the November thread so that you can get support from other users who are going through the same situation as you.

You do need to eat so have something simple. Eggs are always good. Scrambled egg with a bit of cheese. Soup, chicken and rice. Nice and plain. You need to make sure you are getting enough protein every day.

And drink a ton of water. 2L a day.

deckchaira · 05/11/2024 20:28

Thanks; I am bang on target with the water but I am never going to hit the protein goal today. I can't believe how it's hit me tbh, I feel as if I have just eaten my dinner and I haven't even looked at food for hours!

Yeah, I tend to focus on healthy snacks when suppression is that high, as meals are too daunting.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 06/11/2024 10:02

I don't use them personally but a lot of people recommend drinking your calories when you feel this way. Maybe have a look at some meal replacement drinks from somewhere like Huel?

I would also second the snacking idea. Nutrient dense, high cal snacks like nuts etc

I also wouldn't worry about protein targets on days like these. Just focus on getting some fuel into your body.

Also, it won't last forever! A couple of days of subpar eating will not do you any harm.

Good luck!

Yes you need to eat. Put in sustainable habits. Have good quality protein and fibre ready to put together. You’ll be feeling weird as you’ve just taken the jab but it will settle down. If it doesn’t and you feel wobbly in spite of eating see your doc to have your blood sugars checked.
And defo join the November support thread!

I have made a breakfast Bircher- use fage Greek youghurt, add pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flaxseed and some apple juice. That helps with protein boost

I enjoy those days of eating so little, given that have spent so long overeating.

I have had some days of suppression where I've eaten less than 300 calories- like three mandarin oranges and a carrot. And frankly, I feel all the better for it!

I have the MyProtein high protein meal replacement drinks for when I can't face food. DH and I tried loads of different protein drinks and really, really tried to like Huel, but after using up several packets of Huel and still hating it, we went back to the strawberry and the banana flavour from MYProtein.

They make up with cold water, taste like really nice milk shakes and are only 200 cals each for 20g protein and various nutrients. We also enjoy a few of the clear whey protein drinks from them and one thing I particularly like about that firm is that you can buy samples of many of their products, rather than having to buy a whole bag of something you might not like.

You need to eat or you risk losing muscle. Work out what your daily calorie level is for weight loss and eat to that regardless of whether you feel like it. I like greek yoghurt for calories, prorein and digestibility. You will find a balance and what works for you, it just takes time.

Orangesandlemons77 · 06/11/2024 19:05

I'm like this atm and trying to eat something even something small or a protein drink 3 times a day, partly as I want to try and avoid too fast weight loss and gallstones and losing muscle.

Sometimes I am just having e.g.

Breakfast- 1/2 Huel black
Lunch: other half
Dinner: some greek yoghurt with fruit

But at least it is some regular protein to keep up my levels
I could not eat anything though- I find having something helps with the nausea though.

WeAllHaveWings · 06/11/2024 19:26

You need to eat as much as you comfortably can on high suppression days, and make up for it on lower suppression days, aiming to keep to a reasonable and healthy calorie deficit over the week.

The first week or two are the worst, but worth tracking calories to make sure you are eating enough over the week.

I found mixed nuts were not too filling but packed with calories when I needing topping up some days.
