Disappointed in first month

As per title.
I did my 4th mournjono injection yesterday. first week I had good appetite suppression until about day 5/6, same 2nd week. 3rd week wore off quicker and 4th injection I haven’t noticed a difference at all.
I know this can happen and I’ve ordered next injection but can’t help feeling disappointed.
I’d be interested to hear positive stories from people in similar situations.
Thanks.

i Have taken six injections now and have lost 15lbs. 5 at 2.5mg and 1 at 3.75mg.

I don’t seem to have the same level of appetite suppression as others report. I do get hungry for meals, wake up hungry. I just feel fuller after a meal and don’t always think about food. I snack a lot less and do t crave crisps or sweets or biscuits.

Im not sure I really want the full suppression that folks talk about. I want a healthy balanced diet that I can live with long term. I want to be able to go out to dinner etc.

TheSilkWorm · 03/11/2024 15:09

Have you lost any weight?
Why are you disappointed if you know this is likely and part of the process of the drug taking effect?

TheShellBeach · 03/11/2024 15:12

It's Mounjaro.

The 2.5mg dose is to get your body acclimatised to the tirzepatide.

5mg is the first proper dose.

TheShellBeach · 03/11/2024 15:13

I've got to 12.5mg now, and I've lost 3st 2lb since the end of June.

Yes, I know what you’re saying to be true, I can’t help being disappointed at the same time.

Slow and steady wins the race. I’ve gone from over 12 stone and obese to just under 9 stone this year. But I’ve probably only lost a pound a week on average.

2lbs.
Disappointed because others have had a much better result and I’ve read lots of stories of people staying on 2.5 and not needing to up their dose. When you’ve been overweight for such a long time and have high expectations it’s disappointing when it’s not working so well initially. I’ve not lost hope!

Seriously don’t worry about it. You’ve lost weight and that’s the main thing. It does keep coming down.

Swissrollover · 03/11/2024 15:28

If it help you reframe it, it hasn't been a month yet, just a day over 3 weeks. Hopefully it will continue to build in your system to become more effective. Did you order 5mg for your next pen?

Yes, that’s a good point but I’m not feeling and suppression and the food noise is back. Yes, I have ordered 5 for the next one and I’m confident. Just having a little pity party!

If it helps, expect a slow loss so that anything more is a welcome extra. Expecting to lose a lot quickly is a recipe for disappointment. Looking at what others lost will not help. Some lose faster and others lose slower. You can't force yourself to lose any faster than your body is going, so you may as well accept how your body works.

VioletCrawleyForever · 03/11/2024 16:16

I was too.

My weight loss was slow until I got to 7.5.

But now I've lost 2 stone and it's noticeable and I feel so much better.

Well, I've upped my dose each time, and I'm going to order a 15mg pen next week.

Everyone's response to every medicine in the world is different.

Don't lose hope!

I only weighed myself once in the first month exactly because I didn't want to be disappointed and risk triggering previous behaviours of giving up/binging.
I have lost 19 kg since starting in mid June - but almost all was after the first month.
Stay the course. From my experience it's the best thing I've ever done! Good luck and don't be despondent. 😁

I'm on quite a few forum and chat with lots of people about Mounjaro and the trends I've noticed are:

  • it seems to work better if you have a metabolic/hormone problem, so if you have PCOS, Diabetes, Insulin intolerance the response seems to be more effective
  • you need to change your diet and eat well to avoid side effects and get the full suppression, that means plenty of protein and fibre, reduced carbs and sugar, good fats, limited greasy food.
  • you need to add in exercise to boost your metabolism by building muscle.

What does your diet and exercise look like 4 weeks into MJ?

Chickenwing2 · 03/11/2024 16:33

Are you eating less?

I lost a stone in the first month but I was also actively trying to eat less when it started to wear off. I was also making healthier choices about the food I did eat.

The medicine only decreases appetite, you still need to change what you eat and consume less calories than you burn.

Healthy diet but too much snacking once the food noise returns.
Cardio and strength training 3 x week. I’ll increase this one work calms down soon.
