I had a chocolate craving last night 😱 and can I do IF on MJ

So for the first time since starting MJ, I had a chocolate craving last night… instead of taking the whole bag, I had 4 giant buttons. Does this mean the current dose isn’t working? I went down to 2.5mg after feeling like 💩 on 5mg.

Also am I able to do IF on MJ? I think it’s a good long term plan, though if I could find something that keeps craving at bay, I’d stay on MJ forever.

Yes it's still working because you could only eat 4 instead of the whole bag. Small victories and all.

Yes you can do IF. Mounjaro just helps you stick to any weight loss strategy so be it IF, OMAD, Keto, etc. It's fine as long as you get your nutrients in. Protein, veg, fruits, fibre, water, some carbs. Once in a while sugar isn't bad if you can't help it.

Thank you for the reply.

I'm still finding that processed food is making me feel 🤢

For example, on the weekend I’d be all over the ‘nice’ curries at M&S, but I came home yesterday with trout, broccoli and brown rice and chicken, sweet potato and cauliflower to make my own curry, plus ingredients for my own homemade soup. I LOVE the difference it is making to me.

There is one small worry I’m having… people are posting saying things like ‘they told us thalidomide was good for us’… I don’t really want to google it but I know it was a terrible thing. Why are people saying this?

Maybe I need to start another thread on this, but surely this drug is tested thoroughly or we couldn’t buy it?

It's actually been in testing since 2016. So quite a long time to be fair. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9268041/

cardibach · 02/11/2024 10:16

@CobaltRewind I don't take these, but the current drug testing protocols came into effect because of the Thalidomide tragedy. You can't compare modern drugs to that.

IMustBeInvisible · 02/11/2024 10:17

@CobaltRewind I wouldn't pay attention to the doom mongers. This drug has been tested thoroughly and is also been in use by diabetic patients. It's fine. Just eat well, drink enough water, exercise if you can and get good rest while on Mounjaro. It's a tool that is here to help you have a healthy lifestyle. Don't be afraid to use it the way it's meant to be used.

People like mentioning previous drug scandals like thalidomide, as it sounds like they know what they're talking about and it's attention grabbing. In reality it demonstrates how little they know, and pretty much signals that they are just enjoying having a stir about a current popular topic of threads.

I’ve had the shit scared out of me by some people coming onto the MJ board - there was recently a thread (deleted this morning) saying it could kill you, give you cancer and if you’ve a BMI under 30 you are royally fucked. Up until this point I was merrily taking it but I remind myself most of those posters seem to have a serious issue with people taking MJ and are not medically qualified.

Also wanted to add OP, I have a box of after 8’s in the fridge and have one if I have a craving (43 cals I think) Asda’s version 😄

annedawso · 02/11/2024 19:03

@sampler. I started considering taking it as a couple of the menopause Drs I follow in USA said they use it with their patients and have seen health marker improvements in metabolic health.
I quite like that this medication is two peptides that naturally occurs in our bodies, fascinating it was developed after research on lizards who eat infrequently.!!!

Trouble is because of all the ultra processed food around us for which there is little legislation are bodies aren’t working as they should. Ridiculous that we feel the need to take medication to control ourselves but we are where we are and feels for me only way to combat the food industry encouraging us all to eat their crap.

I think there will be a lot of backlash trying to discredit Mounjaro as sounds like already affecting the food industry in USA.

Sounds like you're doing fine, OP!

I eat like a normal person on MJ. Occasionally, I'll have a tea and cake after a busy day out, or I'll not fancy it at all and save it for another day. I quite happily have a glass or two of wine at the weekend with a meal.

I have done IF for many years, and have kept at it on MJ also - I basically fast from the hours of 6.30pm - 12pm the next day. Except now that I'm using MJ I'm not grabbing the carbiest, sugariest options as my first port of call. If I do fancy carbs or a sugary treat, it doesn't trigger me into overeating/bingeing.

I've recently had a full works blood test, and I'm completely fine in every respect.

I say this on every thread about MJ where it's applicable, so I'll say it here, too - your dose should be as low as possible, with minimal negative side effects while also benefiting your weight loss efforts. Go low, and go slow - don't up your dose just because. Sounds like you've made that choice for yourself already.
