Regret dose increase

Hi…
looking for some words of wisdom
I took my 2nd dose of 5mg on Wednesday. And I’m still feeling hellish. Vomiting/constipated and just generally seedy. This happened last week too and I felt like it had just passed when it was time to take the second injection.
I had minimal side effects on 2.5 and a total loss of 1.5 stone in a month so unsure whether I can just go back down or need to ride this out?
thanks

My DH has had this going up to 7.5, he's going straight back down to 5. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Antihistamine62 · 01/11/2024 21:33

Thankyou, I’ll go back down on Wednesday. This feeling would put you off taking it 😭

I had similar symptoms during first and second weeks on 5mg. I was ready to give it up completely. In 3 rd week, it just changed and all was fine.

I am not sure why you increased to 5mg given that 2,5 was working so well for you? They do say stick to the lowest dose that you lose weight on. I only went up because I had lost nothing for 3 weeks on my second month of 2.5mg.

Antihistamine62 · 01/11/2024 22:03

I’m buying it from my local pharmacy and it was on their recommendation. In hindsight I should have questioned it. But I totally understand the ready to give up feeling. I’m obviously delighted with the loss but this feeling is untenable

I had an awful time on the transition to 5mg. It is the biggest dosage jump in relative terms. You are very likely through the worst of it now.

Wishthiswasntmypost · 01/11/2024 22:05

3rd week it started to ease for me but just turn pen fewer clicks to reduce dose

RabbitsRock · 01/11/2024 22:07

Blimey 1.5 stone in a month!

StMarieforme · 01/11/2024 22:09

Love that you're all taking advice about a strong medication that you're injecting into yourselves, with no medical surveillance or monitoring, from strangers on the internet.

Really? 🤷🏻‍♀️

AndThereSheGoes · 01/11/2024 22:09

It's literally double what you had before ( that was working). If you doubled anything else in your life from exercise to wine you'd know it. You will get used to it.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 01/11/2024 22:42

Have you read the information book in your prescription packet?

I would recommend you stop taking it until you've had chance to talk to both your GP and your prescriber about these side effects.

Also if you've not read the information sheet, please do and look specifically at the side effects part.

Losing 1.5 stone - almost 10kg - in a month is not normal even on Mounjaro. That is something to be concerned about.

I wouldn’t be surprised if your extreme weight loss is causing your sickness and nausea. It is possible to lose weight in an unhealthy way that can lead to malnourishment and health issues.

According to an online search:

To lose 1 kg of body weight, you need to create a calorie deficit of approximately 7,700 calories. To achieve a 10 kg weight loss in 1 month, you'll need to create a daily calorie deficit of around 2,500 calories.

So it’s a drastic amount you have lost - is your pharmacy aware? I think you need to urgently contact them about that and your sickness.

ChunkyMunky · 01/11/2024 22:59

I found the side effects much too strong on 5mg. I had a little gap (half a week), to allow the amount of medication in my system time to reduce, and then dropped down to 2.5mg again.

I’ve been on MJ for 3 months now and still only on 3.75mg per week.

In the mean time, get plenty of rest and fluids.

Antihistamine62 · 01/11/2024 23:16

To answer some questions, yes the pharmacy are aware of the loss. They weigh you and take measurements. I’m going to go in tomorrow morning and speak to them.
on the 2.5mg I was eating 3 healthy meals a day with no nausea etc and feeling well. It’s just since upping the dose I’ve felt horrendous and been forcing myself to eat - albeit the wrong things as I know I’ve needed sugar etc.
I’ll update you all when I speak to them tomorrow.

on another note, pre babies I used to be able to drop weight very quickly, but having 5 babies in quick succession including twins) I was finding it very difficult.

What was your starting BMI?

Eating the wrong food can also trigger sickness on mounjaro, your body won’t be able to tolerate high sugar and a poor diet like it used to.

Antihistamine62 · 01/11/2024 23:28

My starting BMI was 34

Is that local pharmacy part of a chain? It does sound a good idea that they can see you in person.

Antihistamine62 · 02/11/2024 00:08

Yes, it’s not a huge uk based chain like boots. I think there’s maybe 10 of them around Glasgow.

Rapid weight loss needs to be investigated. It may not be entirely down to weight loss injections. There are some serious side effects from WLI including acute and chronic pancreatitis which will cause nausea and vomiting.
I had a serious reaction to a drug some years ago. It caused acute liver failure and I was very ill. The more people that take these drugs the more side effects will become apparent. The drug I took was on the market for some years before it was eventually withdrawn because it caused too many incidents of liver failure.

Antihistamine62 · 02/11/2024 14:20

I went and spoke to the pharmacist today, she agreed to drop back down when my next jab is due.
in the meantime she advised anti sickness tabs and some laxatives as the sickness won’t be helped with the constipation.
just incase anyone was interested x

Do you need to buy another pen to drop back down or have they advised to take 2.5mg from your 5mg pen? Did they also advise if you could use the pen for longer?

I am just being nosy to see what different pharmacies advise, especially face to face ones, as so many of the online ones are adamant they will not discuss taking doses adjusted lower from a pen, or even just a few days over the 30 days - both of which should not be an issue imo

EliLilly · 02/11/2024 16:50

I've dropped back down twice now - when I took a dose that was too much for me. I'm ready to try the previously problematic dose again now (in hindsight I wasn't ready before). I shall find out if that is true next week!

ThirdStorm · 02/11/2024 17:17

Don’t be afraid to remain on 2.5g, it’s the only dose I’ve ever taken and lost over 4st with minimal bad side effects. If you have suppression and your losing don’t go up. After the first month I didn’t have to eat so plainly either. I take psyllium husk for constipation and it’s great stuff, keeps me ahem regular. Ps. I lost quite a lot in my first month too, nothing to investigate!

Antihistamine62 · 02/11/2024 20:22

She recommended buying the 2.5 pen (nothing for free in this life) but I’ll just half the 5 dose with the clicks.
not lying though I said I had forgot my purse and would go back to purchase another haha
thanks @ThirdStorm needed to hear that ❤️

I disagree - I lost a stone in just 2 weeks when starting MJ! Thats rapid but I was (and still am) absolutely fine. I actually felt amazing. It just works really well for some people. Remember it's not just about appetite control - it affects hormones too.

Antihistamine62 · 03/11/2024 16:42

@surreygirl1987 thats how I felt in the first month! Amazing and full of energy!
since starting the 5 I just feel shite! Think it’s just too much for me.
