Wegovy. Has it been worth it? Are you still using it or have you switched to mounjaro?

I've finally been approved for wegovy and I should have it on Friday.
I've lost five stone over the last two years through diet and being unwell.
I still have four stone to lose to get to a BMI of 25. I've not lost any weight for six months. I am disabled now and have limited mobility.
I have read many posts on these threads and most people are no longer talking wegovy. Why is that?
I'm feeling uneasy.

If you don't mind me asking- How did you get approved for it I have been going back and forth with my GP as my BMi is over 27 and I have sleep apnea but they have been no help

No problem. I have autoimmune conditions so the mounjaro contraindicates with methotrexate.
Voy would not give anything without contacting my GP. I'm bmi 31/32.

I don't have diabetes or heart conditions. Blood pressure normal.

I have taken both OP. I gave up on Wegovy as the fatigue was intolerable and it also lowered my mood significantly. I gave it 3 goes but the same thing happened each time.

So now I'm trying mounjaro and so far, for me, it has been way better. No fatigue, no depression. I am delighted and relieved.

However that is just my experience and someone else might experience the completely opposite effect.

I've lost weight on it. Been on it a good while. Couldn't swap to MJ because I'd lost too much weight to start again on it. It's a good alternative.

Wegovy was fab. I’ve switched to Mounjaro because it’s half the price but it’s a bit meh to be honest. If I had the money I’d switch back.

I’m on Wegovy and it’s been fine. I haven’t tried anything else.

That’s interesting, i thought mounjaro was meant to be better?

I thought they were the same? GLP? Am interested in what’s different between them.

I started at BMI 31.5. Been on Wegovy (the only one I was offered) since June. It’s fine. I am a bit more tired but apart from that am very contented with the steady and slow weight loss. Am 21lb down now so 4lb a month but it’s painless and easy. Expensive though!

Mrsredlipstick · 01/11/2024 06:00

Thank you @Farmgoose .
Im BMI 31. 5 down from 43. I lost just under five stone in two years mainly by not drinking and eating crisps, cheese etc.

I wanted the mounjaro because it shows huge reductions in inflammation (I have RA) however after doing some research it's seems it is the GP1 that does that and it's in both.
I've not lost weight for six months so I need a boost. Four stone to go. I'm happy if it takes me until next Christmas as I have big birthday.

@StormingNorman i thought that mounjaro gave quicker results as most people on it reduced to 800 calories without hunger. However I'm not able to do that, I'd keel over.

The thing that worries me is feeling sick. I guess I won't know until I try.
Wegovy does seem more expensive but as an ex boozer it's my wine money so I am still quids in.

Mounjaro acts on two different pathways on the body GLP-1 and GIP -
Both pathways act to increase insulin secretion( which is why it works for type 2 diabetics) and suppress hunger centrally (within the brain)
GLP-1 slows down how quickly food moves through your digestive system so you feel fuller for longer
GIP pathway also acts on your fat cells to reduce fat deposition in parts of the body that normally don't store fat e.g liver
