Are weight loss jabs a placebo effect or does it actually do the job?

So just as the title says, I’m genuinely curious. I am overweight and I’ve been struggling with my weight the past year or so as I feel like I’m now in my mid 30s. It’s not been as easy as before. I’ve been reading about all these stories about how the weight-loss jabs have helped etc. Are there any long term repercussions etc. that people are missing? Is it just a placebo effect? Or does it actually help?

I'm not sure I understand your question. What do you think the active ingredients in the jab are doing?

The short term side effects are well publicised, but in terms of long term repercussions, it's likely to be a number of years before we'll truly know, as the data doesn't exist yet.

They've been used for years, something like more than 20. So yes, the data exists. Google will help you.

Are there any long term repercussions etc. that people are missing?

No, none identified as yet. There are some very rare serious side effects that can happen, but that is the same as any other prescription medication. The benefits for obese people outweigh the risks

Is it just a placebo effect?

Of course it's not a placebo effect. These are tested and trialled medications, that are compared against those taking a placebo and proven to be more effective. Otherwise they wouldn't get approval for use.

Or does it actually help?

Yes, they do actually help.

Well hundreds ( if not thosands) are using them and loosing weight.. there would be an uproar if they were all placebo...some of us are using them for Type 2 diabetes along side for weight loss..
We would be very ill if they were a placebo ( l had to stop my previous type 2 medication).
I've lost two and half stone in 14 weeks .. no side effects.. l am having my diabetic blood test next week..🤞

www.ema.europa.eu/en/medicines/human/EPAR/mounjaro

'In this study, people who used Mounjaro in combination with diet and physical activity for 72 weeks reduced their weight by at least 15% on average, depending on the dose they were given. This compares with 3% in people who were given a placebo. Over 85% of people taking Mounjaro were able to reduce their weight by at least 5%, compared with 35% of people given placebo.'
