Now the weight loss is ticking along nicely...other stuff!

Fancy a chat/support/motivation/ideas thread about the other stuff you're working on or want to improve?

By 'ticking along nicely' I don't mean that there won't be bumps in the road (side effects/stalls/under suppression/over suppression etc) but even with the bumps 'lose weight' is being taken care of and it is time to focus more on other goals that may directly or indirectly support the lifestyle you want.

My list is long but I'm not going to tackle it all on at once (I know that won't work!).

I've done 19 weeks now and lost enough to feel way more positive about actually achieving long-term the lifestyle I want. I've added in an evening hobby group, joined the local spa hotel with gym (still need to get into a routine with that though), plantar fasciitis is slowly improving.

I want to be more consistent with going to the gym/pool (think I need set days/times) and my exercises and therapies for plantar fasciitis.

Also housework. I've got really lazy with it due to foot. I'm not saying it is bad but there is no routine and is rarely beyond swish and swipe clean. I love it when it is really clean though...out of the habit of that! I'm going to go and do 20 minutes NOW!

Ooo nice idea. For me, I need to move my arse. I’m going to order a pedometer so that I can hit 10k steps a day.

Eventually I would really like to do some proper structured exercise. I have a tennis court sitting unused. I would love to feel comfortable enough to use it in the near future. Right now, I would get out of breath in minutes so I’m going to concentrate on 10k steps first.

HansHolbein · 29/10/2024 17:21

@EliLilly Oh jeez Louise I feel so sorry for you with the plantar fasciitis! I had that years ago! Your poor thing

Cantfindanavailablename · 29/10/2024 17:22

Ooh nice idea for a thread. I started mid June and seem to be doing ok. Have since downloaded a pedometer on my phone and gotten a dog!!!

Orangesandlemons77 · 29/10/2024 17:36

I'm starting with doing more walking which I used to put off. But for enjoyment not just weight loss. It's been nice with the autumn leaves in the park and feeling less breathless than I used to.

I've also been talking daily hot baths in the evenings

EliLilly · 29/10/2024 18:09

Thanks @HansHolbein - I've had it for ten years, to varying degrees in one or other or both feet! It hasn't been really bad for a long time though and is definitely getting better recently (right foot only at moment). I'm not 100% convinced it is PF now but it is easier just to say that.

My new (ish) gadget for it is infra red light therapy. Got a unit that cost £500 😱- good for lots of other things too. Allegedly. I had worked up to being consistent using it (and I swear it was working) but been rubbish again this past week. Need a tick chart!

Pedometer idea is great. DH got an apple watch recently and he is very motivated to getting his 'rings'! I love walking with a friend/by myself (used to me in mountaineering/hillwalking clubs in my younger days) - just the damn foot holding me back. When I've got that more sorted I would love to join a group. I think.

I've done my 20 mins. It was entirely 'perpetuals' (laundry/dishes/tidying) but action brings motivation for more. Anyway, decided that is my 'rule' for posting on here - I have to declare something that I am going to do (that I probably wouldn't have otherwise done) and do it asap and definitely before posting again.

Yet another thing I am rubbish at is food planning/organisation, and want to improve. So I will sign off with - I'm going to nip to the shops to get a few healthy things for dinner/tomorrow rather than making do/eating rubbish (I had Weetabix for dinner last night!). Rare night in home alone for me - feels like bliss!

Hot baths sound lovely @Orangesandlemons77 ! I don't have a bath but two Jacuzzis at the spa...I started mid June too @Cantfindanavailablename . How exciting/fun to have a dog to walk now!

Do you have a decent, research based osteopath? My husband is an osteopath and has done some good stuff with foot issues in the past

EliLilly · 30/10/2024 14:30

Yes, thank you @Cantfindanavailablename - there is very little I haven't tried apart from shockwave therapy (came very close though - then it suddenly got better without it) and surgery/steroid injections. Over the years I have seen a podiatrist (completely useless - spend most of the session googling vionic shoes and then recommending a cheap insert), physio and osteopath (brilliant for the frozen shoulder!).

Honestly, I'm not limping around (I always wear very good shoes for it for a start) - it is just underlying and flares up if I overdo it. I have a job where I am 50%+ on my feet but have really noticed that I have more 'mileage' left in them at the end of the day recently and can do evening walks etc. I just want to be more consistent with the things that I know work (and have at home/can do in the pool). I've pretty much got rid of it several times - losing weight does help! Oh to do it long-term and be able to wear more attractive shoes again...and go on proper day-long hikes!

I've got a Pilates foot corrector at home, Yamuna foot wakers... Very rarely use them. Consistency is key! Last time I got rid of it I was consistently doing calf stretches in the pool 3x a week and going to Pilates reformer classes 2-3 x a week (and I had lost weight). Then Covid hit and I stopped doing these and gained weight...

Top three things I am going to work on are:

  • Food organisation/planning/repertoire of healthy go to meals/embrace freezing.
  • Less over-thinking - more doing
  • Building up a routine (definitely to include exercise and piano practise!)

I'm now going to choose a recipe out of the newly released 'Food for life cookbook' and then do a supermarket order. Gone with 'Spicy Gochujang Beans' and put that order in. I think making myself try one new recipe and doing an online food shop once a week should help...

I do an online food shop every Friday and add to it during the week- it does really help with organisation.

EliLilly · 01/11/2024 10:28

Fingers crossed @Orangesandlemons77 - hoping it will really help too.

What are you working on?

Just some simple self care and a routine to start with, really. A walk most days for example.

EliLilly · 01/11/2024 14:43

Sorry @Orangesandlemons77 - I didn't realise that you were exactly the same poster that said about the walks and hot baths etc.! 😳Only just twigged!
