Weight loss stalled

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 27/10/2024 20:20

I'm 2 weeks and 4 days in. Had good weight losses in the first 2 weeks but 4 days into this week and I've not lost anything. I'm only weighing every few days as I know weight loss fluctuates but it's not looking likely that I'll lose anything this week which is a bit demoralising.

I'm eating between 900-1200 calories a day which is between 600-900 calories below my daily TDEE. I'm walking twice a day, swam twice this week and I've been to the gym once.

Today's meals as an example of an average day were: breakfast - porridge. Lunch - chicken and veg stew and an apple. Dinner - homemade veg soup and a few spoons of kefir. Snack - a handful of jelly beans. Around 1100 calories.

I'm basically eating 3 small meals a day with 1 snack.

Is there anything I can do to boost weight loss this week?

4 days isn't a stall it is merely your body settling into its new regime. Give it time and 'trust the process'.

I would also say that you seem rather low on protein. You should be aiming for 0.8 - 1.2g of protein per kg of body weight. This will help you feel fuller, help guard against muscle loss and likely to guard against too much hair loss!!

You don't mention your fluid intake. You should be drinking at least 2 litres of water a day. I tend to have 3 litres a day and find days when I drink less, I lose less!

There's protein in the milk, chicken and kefir.
I don't drink enough but never have.

It's not a stall. It's normal fluctuations and it's not an issue that needs addressing if one week your weight loss is lower or even nothing at all. It's a long term process, it should be judged over several weeks, not a few days.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 27/10/2024 20:47

You should be aiming for round 25-30g of protein per meal. 500 ml of milk will only have around 18g of protein and kefir about 4g per 100. Use them to supplement other forms of protein rich foods rather than as your only source of protein.

I had chicken too.

Thats not a stall, which is why I have such beef with this word and weight loss.

How can you think that a week or even 2 or 3 weeks is stalled weight loss?

Because if you are eating considerably below your TDEE then weight loss should be happening.

And it will, it just isn't always going to be a linear process. Which is why you have to look over a much longer timescale than 3 or 4 days.

It is happening, its happening right now, every minute of the day, its not always represented on the scales in a linear day by day fashion because thats not how weight in your body works.

HecatesBees · 27/10/2024 21:07

There is a reason we are encouraged to only weigh once a week

GreenFrogPinkFrog · 27/10/2024 21:10

Eating 900 calories a day is not healthy or sustainable and you're getting anywhere near enough carbs or protein.

4 days is not a stall. I'm 60lbs down and weigh myself every 2 weeks, weighing every few days is not healthy. Your weight will fluctuate up and down daily depending on all sorts of factors so it's not an accurate representation to weigh that frequently. I'd get upset if my weight hasn't gone down after a few days but actually looking at it week on week/every 2 weeks it was dropping no problem.

Weight loss is happening. The figure on the scales in the first couple of weeks will have included loss of water from your muscles. Now that you've settled into your diet the water will start to be replaced by your body, meaning the weight of water in your body will increase slightly. This will balance against ongoing fat loss and mean your weight on tje scales will remain the same until you lose a bit more fat and they start to show the loss again.

I'm really short so between 900-1200 calories is ok for a weight loss amount.

You should never go under 1200. What's your TDEE?

Course you can. There's not a blanket amount that you can't go under as everyone is different heights. It makes a huge difference when you're short. My TDEE is currently 1800. Most days I'm having around 1200 but yes some days I slip to nearer 900 which is fine.

Darlinghag · 27/10/2024 21:19

This is wild. Its not a stall, and a deficit of 900 cals is not healthy.

How short are you if your TDEE is 1800 and yet you're obese?

AgathaMystery · 27/10/2024 21:21

I’m assuming you’re taking mounjaro. If so, and 2 weeks you are some 2 mth off a true therapeutic dose.

You sound absolutely mental. Get a grip.

Yeah, I agree, in theory, but put it together with your other posts/comments it suggests you need to relook at your expectations and general outlook around MJ. It sounds like you want a quick fix, which we all know really, don’t work.

TheSilkWorm · 27/10/2024 21:24

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 27/10/2024 21:22

What do you mean?

I mean, if you're obese your TDEE should be higher than 1800 a day. I'm 5 4 and 44 years old and my TDEE is 2200, and I've just tipped under the obese BMI into overweight. So I am asking because either you're extremely short, not actually obese or mistaken in your TDEE calculation is my guess.

Wow. Thanks. I'm not mental FFS. Are you always that horrible. I'm just desperate. This is my last ditch attempt to kick start weight loss. I'm being made redundant so I'm off the MJ after this month (unexpectedly) so I'm upset, going through shit and need to lose some fucking weight because it's the only goddamn thing I can control at the moment.

Your body needs water to metabolize fat. You really have to drink more.
