Thinking of MJ

Had rather a wake up call at the doctor this week. At my very heaviest ever. 52. Menopausal. Fat. Depressed. Leg injury which makes exercise tricky. Have been considering the jab.

But something is stopping me. Obviously I need to and want to lose weight but can I still eat / have a wine? What about Christmas and holidays etc? Do you not inject for that week / weeks? Just wondering what others do.

I've had it in my basket since Tues just not brave enough to check out!

Similar logic, I inject on Friday morning as I WFH that day and then have the weekend in case of side effects. Only had unpleasant gastric side effects once though.

namechangedyetagain · 27/10/2024 17:59

Ah so I work Mon to Fri so maybe sat morning in case of any side effects?

or Friday night? I do Thursday night - the first couple of weeks I had a dull headache. It was worst the night I ingested but I was able the sleep through it.

lots of water helps.

Mylittlebobble · 27/10/2024 18:19

I'm thinking about it too. Classic weight gain on stomach since peri. I'm 5 foot 4 and just over 10 stone 7 pounds. Was a stone lighter up until 2 years ago. Was a size 12 but now a 14. I think about food all the time now where I was an intuitive eater previously. I'm torn between accepting my new figure or trying to get back to previous weight.

SilenceInside · 27/10/2024 18:46

@Mylittlebobble you won't get a prescription as your BMI is not over 30, in fact it's about 25 so not even overweight.

Mylittlebobble · 27/10/2024 18:55

@SilenceInside thanks for the info. My friend has started on it and she looked about my size so I assumed I could start it. So that's an easy decision then (as in no decision to make)

Darlinghag · 27/10/2024 18:59

well done!

i second jabbing at night, I tend to think it means I sleep through the worst of the initial effects!

I would also recommend knowing your calorie deficit and calorie counting to start, at least. Honestly, pasta and wine can be big calorie allowance eaters and its good to know where you stand and what you should be at roughly!

SilenceInside · 27/10/2024 19:05

@Mylittlebobble perhaps your friend has a BMI of 28 and weight related health issues, or a BMI of 28 and is of one of the ethnicities that qualify at a lower BMI. Or, she's obtained it fraudulently which is extremely unwise and dangerous.

Mylittlebobble · 27/10/2024 19:39

@SilenceInside I'm a rule follower so I'll not be going down that avenue. I don't know ins and outs of friend's health so maybe.

The food noise in head is so shit. Wishing everyone a heart-felt best of luck xx

UtterlyQuackers · 27/10/2024 20:17

I have it in my basket too!

I'm not even sure what I am scared of!

Doggymummar · 27/10/2024 20:25

I was on it last Christmas and still had a great time. Went to loads of parties and dos and it was fine. The jab takes about 5 weeks to wear off for me, when on full strength I stayed the same in December and January last year I would have gained a stone without it.

scoopoftheday · 27/10/2024 20:25

Sorry if these questions are asked/answered on another thread and I am being stupid/annoying...

When you say "in your basket" can this be bought online somewhere?

My BMI is 31.8 and I have high cholesterol and high BP (working on that via diet tweaks) but I have an appt with the nurse this week and will discuss it with her.

I'm just curious I guess.

Doggymummar · 27/10/2024 20:26

Basket at the pharmacy

SilenceInside · 27/10/2024 20:33

@scoopoftheday yes, you can get a private prescription from an online pharmacy, you fill out a consultation form, upload photos and it's approved by a doctor. The pharmacy then send out the medication.

Places like Asda Online Pharmacy, Boots, Superdrug, Lloyds, Zava, Voy, Oushk and many others.

namechangedyetagain · 28/10/2024 14:17

Having trouble with photos being approved .

Gone back to reading horror stories and doubting myself today. Maybe I'd just be happier staying fat.

Just do it!! It's honestly life changing.
I have lost 4 stones and am now a normal BMI which is incredible.
It's been effortless and has made eating healthier so much easier after all the pointless losing and gaining cycles from slimming world weight watchers rosemary vonley you name I've done it!!
I don't know what horror stories you are reading? These drugs are used by millions of diabetics who owe their lives to them.

SilenceInside · 28/10/2024 14:42

@namechangedyetagain have they said what the issue is with the photos? And is your BMI well over the 30 limit or is it close to it?

namechangedyetagain · 28/10/2024 16:16

Oh no, my BMI is 38. I am ashamed of myself. I have no desire to be a size 10 or 12. Currently a 20. If I could just lose my peri belly that would be great. If my blood pressure came down too so I could give up that medication that would also be great. Would also just like to feel better in myself though I have a lot going on stress wise so don't think that will happen.

I think once you’re happier with your appearance, you will feel better in yourself, especially as your Bp etc reduces. The photos are an issue for everyone you’ve to follow the guidelines, I had to do mine twice, I just went all out and showed them my belly. Fuck it,

UtterlyQuackers · 28/10/2024 17:49

I have checked out my basket and was approved today!

Eeeeeek!!

Just had another email to say that the review and prescribing process is delayed so may be a few more days before I hear anything

Along with my wibbles I don't think this was meant to be...

The time in between making your order and your first jab is the worst.
You do your research, make the decision to order, then once you have ordered you get scared and worry if you've done the right thing.
Then your pen arrives and you have to face sticking a needle in yourself which most of us have never done before. Again you worry if you're doing the right thing.
But, believe me, once you've done that first jab things only get better.

This medication has changed my life since I started at the end of May. I started with a BMI of 44 and so far have reduced that down to 34, losing 4 stone.

I've been very lucky so far with no side effects. If you do get any, there will be lots of help on here or speak to your prescriber or GP.

It's a positive thing you're going to do for yourself and your body.
You've got this and can do it!

I look forward to hearing about your weight losses.

That’s normal, everyone has that, so much demand. They are nearly all experiencing this.

I get those emails from MedExpress all the time when it clearly isn't delayed, because it turns up the next day or day after 🤷‍♀️

Not quite. It's the few popular ones that are always mentioned on mumsnet and elsewhere that are typically experiencing delays - for good reason because they're inundated with new orders. Medexpress typically send out these emails because they're swamped and need to manage people's expectations.

All other pharmacies rarely have processing and shipping delays.
