BMI 29 (almost 30!)

I've gone from being never overweight, to almost obese, in the past 4.5 years. A combo of lifestyle changes and perimenopause.

All my previous ways of shifting a bit of weight haven't worked. I've spent the money on Zoe, gone back to low carbs high protein, reduced snacking, etc etc etc.

My DH is morbidly obese and is currently on Orlistat. That's helping him lose weight but he's not been able to change his diet.

We're thinking of trying Mounjaro together.

Has anyone else with a borderline BMI tried it? Is it possible to get it authorised?

Some will authorise it at BMI 27. How much more would you need to weigh to be BMI 30? You could try weighing first thing in the morning, before you go to the loo, wearing heavy jogging bottoms if it's not much. I'm not advocating it, and my first goal is to get to BMI 29, I started at 41, so I find it hard to envisage at that size you have much to lose and couldn't do it conventionally

You may find you are heavier than you realised when you step on the scales... I had been lying to myself for years and thought I was borderline and when I was weighed and measured at the pharmacy rather than at home, I was 2cm shorter than I thought and much heavier than I thought too, so that put me over BMI 30.

Also, if you have any health conditions like high cholesterol, prediabetes, high blood pressure or heart conditions you may qualify at a lower BMI. I had high cholesterol as well (this has come down now as I've lost 14kg since July).

Thanks for commenting. I've tried traditional approaches and had no luck in shifting the weight. I'm tall, so it's quite a lot of actual weight to lose, if that makes sense! About 20kg to what used to be a stable weight for me. Pre hormonal changes.

That's encouraging to hear that I could get it authorised. I have chronic respiratory issues (the medicine for which, and the impact of, have made it harder to shift the weight - whilst paradoxically being all the more important).

I think it’s because I have high BP and arthritis that I was maybe prescribed it with a BMI of 28. I’ve lost 2.5 st and my BP has been normal for the first time since my 20s and I find it so much easier to walk more now I’m lighter. I’m now on a maintenance dose of 0.5 for 6 months and then it will be reviewed. I’m so happy I took the plunge. I’ve had to go without a holidays etc to afford it, but it’s money well spent. I’ve over halved my portions of everything and even on a low dose, my weight is stable. I’m a bit scared about stopping it I must admit.
