Mounjaro not Ozempic

MounjaroUser1233 · 25/10/2024 09:53

Hi, I have signed up for Mounjaro. I lost about 20kg on Ozempic but then stopped using it due to the cost.
At the time there was just Ozempic and another one (beginning with S, forget the name, cwhich made me really ill).

Just wondering is mounjaro better than ozempic? I am worried that I've chosen the wrong one! Thanks x

Hi @MounjaroUser1233 was it Saxenda that you were using before?

Mounjaro has been shown to produce more weight loss than Wegovy(Ozempic) and Saxenda, and to have fewer side effects. There are also very stable supplies of Mounjaro at the moment too. So I wouldn't worry about choosing it over Wegovy(Ozempic).

MounjaroUser1233 · 25/10/2024 12:27

Thank you very much for your reply 🤗

Yes it was Saxenda that I initially started on. It gave me the worst stomach cramps ever, it was like being in labour. And absolutely horrendous diarrhea. It was just awful.

Ozempic I got on really well with but then didn't get round to doing my 6 month photos so they stopped sending and then I couldn't justify the cost.

That is really reassuring about Mounjaro being more effective than Ozempic as I really did think it worked for me.

Hi, I have just started on Mounjaro, I had my first injection this morning. I am type 2 diabetic but had to pay as my GP doesn't offer it as a prescription due to the cost and supplys. I originally lost 4 stone and got to a healthy BMI when I was first diagnosed but this last year I have piled on the weight and have struggled to lose it without help.

I also have high cholesterol and as I turn 60 next year I want to see if this injection helps me make permanent changes without the hunger pains waking me in the night telling me to eat biscuits! :)

I had yoghurt and berries for breakfast and then chicken with brown rice and veg for lunch, 2 cups of coffee and some water but I have to be honest I am still hungry. The way my diabetes seems to work is about an hour after eating I get the urge to sleep, I then wake with hunger like no other, apparently this is because despite over eating my body isnt absorbing the nutrients and vitamins correctly so in effect decides its starving and the swing in blood sugar makes me want to eat. I am hopeful that after a few days the injection will stop this and I will again be in control and not hungry.

I chose this injection as there are also reports of it helping with other addictions, I for my shame started smoking again (in the thought that it may curb my eating) but I want to knock that on the head too.

Anyway just popped on to share and wish you luck on your journey too

MounjaroUser1233 · 26/10/2024 16:42

Thank you @Jenasaurus
I am a vaper (a heavy vaper) and I have felt a bit queasy today when I am vaping, which makes me want to do it less! It would be amazing if I could cut down on my vaping or even stop, at the same time as losing some weight! X

I'm on MJ diagnosed due to diabetes, the diabetes nurse prescribed it, I've generally found them more helpful than the Drs.

I'm 8 weeks in and the effects on my blood sugar have been phenomenal.

When I started I was on insulin twice a day and full dose of 2000mg metformin a day. Within a couple of days of doing the first MJ jab, I noticed I was getting some really low readings so spoke to the nurse who told me to drop the insulin and see how it went for a few days. My the end of the 2nd week I'd been able to drop the metformin too. So gone from 2 injections and 4 tablets a day to just 1 injection a week.

Lost 18 lbs too.

Yes MJ is having a great effect on anything that the reward system is linked with, so the wish to vape is likely to fall

It's really a phenomenal medication?

MounjaroUser1233 · 26/10/2024 18:16

I am only on my first day of it but I have not really felt hungry much at all. I basically fasted without meaning to.

I would be really interested to know if it affects how people consume alcohol? As that's another 'vice".

I do have a shocking headache though 😕 I have been drinking water as I saw that it switches off the urge to drink as well as eat but it feels like a hangover headache.

OP posts:
Searchingforthelight · 27/10/2024 07:30

Hope that drinking plenty water helps!.
Regarding alcohol, many people are reporting less of an urge to drink.
But also in weight loss studies, there have been anecdotal reports of people being able to control their shopping addiction, their pathological gambling and similar

It's fascinating!

MounjaroUser1233 · 27/10/2024 12:55

Oh wow that is amazing!!
I still have a headache today but it is less.. and had a bit of a binge last night but it was much more restrained than my usual binges.

I have a weird taste in my mouth which I can't get rid off. It's horrible. I don't know if it is the MJ or it is just me not being used to the taste of not having just eaten something

I was really worried I'd have gastro issues but this hasn't happened (touch wood)

Loocheeyar · 27/10/2024 12:59

Oooo where is best to order from please I really need this thank you

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 27/10/2024 18:50

@MounjaroUser1233 a metallic taste is a pretty common side effect. I've had it since day one and it's still with me 19 weeks later 🤷‍♀️
The headache is likely to be lack of water or food.
Re alcohol - I'm a drinker. Have been for years. About 6 weeks in, I found that I didn't really want any wine!! I do have an occasional weekend glass (currently have one in front of me right now!) but that need to go and buy a bottle if there wasn't any in the house has gone. It's incredible! I will say though, the day after anything more than a couple of glasses is NOT pleasant! 😩🤦‍♀️

@Loocheeyar have a look through heree* and think about the sort of service you are looking for. There are numerous threads on here about where to buy that you can look at too. Good luck!

Relatable · 27/10/2024 19:02

Hello! Can I join in? I am advised that our local pharmacist can prescribe Monjauro privately at £140pcm, Is that about right? I need something to kick the wine habit and drop the weight I’m 13.5 stone and 5’5” and have got bigger since the menopause, I eat food mainly cooked from scratch but I eat when I am bored. I am really worried about fucking up my hormone levels post jabs though…. Can anyone direct me to studies about post use?

Thanks for any help or advice.

MounjaroUser1233 · 27/10/2024 19:25

@Relatable I paid £135 for a service called Voy. It is a bit less than when I was using Ozempic.
I was also looking into Boots.com but they (and another service which I forgot what it was) wanted to tell my GP and I didn't want it on my medical records (which I know is maybe a bit vain but hey ho).

I think that there is a thread for referral codes on this board so you might be able to pay less at least for the first month! Good luck x

@IReallyNeedThisToWork oh that's interesting yeah it is a bit like the 'early stage of pregnancy' I had! So it was a bit disconcerting! Even though I have been single for 18 months 😅
Also super interesting about the wine!!
I have been a bit hungrier today but its still really early days. Like you, I do really need this to work!!!! X

OP posts:
MounjaroUser1233 · 27/10/2024 19:31

@relatable I must admit I haven't really given the whole hormones thing much thought 😳 I am just so desperate to not be overweight (am classed as obese) anymore. I will be interested to see the replies!
I would also add that as it's so pricey, there is a bit of a 'sunk costs' element to it for me. Like if I am spending so much money, I will do anything to make it work even if it was a total placebo effect. Although happily I don't think for me it is that.
I am a bit worried about it 'wearing off' towards the end of the week. I injected on Friday, so will need to be extra careful on Wed and Thu of this coming week.
If anyone has any helpful hints regarding the end of the week I would be most grateful x

SilenceInside · 27/10/2024 19:39

@Relatable I don't think there's a huge amount of research into long term post use and hormone levels. The SURMOUNT-4 study is the most recent research done by the manufacturer Lilly. After 36 weeks of using Mounjaro the average weight loss was 20.9%. They then did either a placebo or continued Mounjaro use, those on the placebo had a 14% weight regain whilst those on Mounjaro continued to lose weight, both over the following 52 weeks.

But it's worth remembering that regain happens on all weight loss approaches, even gastric surgery.

Relatable · 27/10/2024 19:40

@MounjaroUser1233 Thanks so much, Interesting point about the GP records but I don’t think that will bother me too much. I am worried about pancreatitis though.

In terms of suppressing other "addictions" I found that ozempic stopped me biting my nails. MJ hasn't had the same effect yet sadly.

JoJothegerbil · 27/10/2024 20:18

Sorry to hijack your thread OP. Posters who've used Wegovy before Mounjaro, have you found the side effects to be less?

I used Wegovy earlier this year but it gave me the most awful diarrhoea after about 2 months. So much so that I'd wake up in the night and spend hours on the loo. I had to stop in the end.

However, I'm still fat and need to be less fat so am wondering if MJ might be better?

MiseryIn · 27/10/2024 20:50

Savanna worked well for me. No side effects at all. I found wegovy far too "strong" for me. I couldn't eat at all and felt awful. Intermittent bouts of the runs.

So far MJ has been fine. You have to avoid excess and in particular wine but no diarrhoea on this.

MounjaroUser1233 · 27/10/2024 21:10

Yes! I have noticed that too @MiseryIn - I had some baked veggies with vegan cheese (as they said to avoid dairy when starting out) earlier and started feeling a bit queasy. Not too intolerable and has worn off now
Ozempic totally zapped my appetite iirc.

Saxenda gave me the worst stomach cramps ever; I had to waste loads of it as the side effects were so awful I was bent double in pain!!

Day 3 and I couldn't face the normally milky coffee I usually have to have first thing! I just had tea with oat milk instead.

Thanks so much for the code. I think the full length photo itself was enough for me to realise I am waaaay bigger than I think I look🙁

All ordered - let's see what happens.

I have an event booked for mid November - any tips to help me still enjoy that? Food and wine I mean.
