Practicalities of mounjaro

Sorry for yet another thread on here, but the search function isn't great...
Seriously considering mounjaro. My BMI is slightly over 40, so pretty sure most companies would be happy to supply. But my ASD manifests as needing details on how things work before committing to them. Does the order include needles, wipes, sharps bin as well as the pens? How do you get rid of the sharps bins once full? Do you tend to need to stick with one company, or can you switch? What proportion of people have to stop due to side effects? (partly as some companies seem to charge less if you commit to the first few months in advance).
Thanks.

Does the order include needles, wipes, sharps bin as well as the pens?

It depends on the prescriber as to what's included or what needs to be optionally added on. They all will include needles as without them you can't use the medication. Most will supply a sharps bin, either with the first order or as an optional extra. Wipes seem to be quite variable. But you can buy a box of 100 from Amazon for a few pounds if not. Sharps bins can also be bought from Amazon for a few pounds.

How do you get rid of the sharps bins once full?

Disposing of the sharps bin depends on what services are available in your area. Check your council website for more information. In my area there is a free collection service for sharps.

Do you tend to need to stick with one company, or can you switch?

Totally depends on the individual. You can easily switch, you just apply to the new company and show evidence of your current dosage (photo of prescription label on the box, letter from previous prescriber etc). Some people switch frequently to take advantage of first time customer discounts.

What proportion of people have to stop due to side effects?

Unsure of the exact numbers but it's not a large percentage at all. Most side effects are minor, manageable and not persistent. You can have a look at the most recent research study on Mounjaro called SURMOUNT-4 which has details of how many participants dropped out due to side effects. There's an up to date list here of the best prices with voucher codes. https://monj.co.uk

You will get the needles with the pen and will usually be asked when you order if you need a sharps bin. Some provide wipes to clean the end of the pen but with some you may need to purchase those separately.

My local authority collects sharps bins when full, but I believe this is different in different areas. Have a look on your local authority's website for info about this.

You can order from a different pharmacy each time, but you will then need to complete a new questionnaire, provide photos and ID etc. You will also need to provide evidence of previous prescription once you start moving up the doses. A photo of the box showing the prescription label is usually okay for this.

I've had no side effects at all. I've been taking this for 21 weeks now and am on 7.5mg. As with everything you will always hear more stories of people suffering, but there will be many more with no side effects not posting, as they don't need advice on how to manage them.

Good luck if you decide to order.
