This just came through in an email from my MJ provider (ME).

I think it's completely wrong - far too many carbs and way too little protein.

I certainly won't be eating like this,

What do you think? Any other providers recommending similar?

(I do plan to email them tomorrow and ask for the source, btw).

Agree it's too carby. And only adds up to 99% too, maybe there's a 1% mystery food group......

Doggymummar · 24/10/2024 17:47

This is for the last month. It won't allow me to screen shot. I have about a third protein, carbs and fat. A fairly equal spread

SilenceInside · 24/10/2024 17:49

This is what Asda have suggested in their guidance. 25% carbs.

I can't see the plate values, @soupfiend

@SilenceInside

That seems much more like it.

I think for most people it would actually be Ok, the starchy foods depicted are all using whole or multi-grains and carbs are necessary in a normal diet.

We aren't eating a normal diet, deliberately because we want to lose weight and/or because our bodies don't do what they're supposed to do and process those foods properly.

I have PCOS and Diabetes T2, I can't eat starchy foods. Potato sends my sugar levels sky high, bread and oats I can only tolerate a portion so small it's just not worth eating. So my plate has none of the starchy section at all, and I also have to restrict fruits and any veg grown below ground.

I eat a lot of protein, fat, green veg and dairy. It's a bit boring and I miss 'crisp/crackers' textures because nothing really does a good job of imitating that without being full of carbs, but it works

Do you mean percentages?

It doesnt seem to show it on the image but then another document I linked to seems to give an amount in grams for the macros, I didnt read it in detail but saw the ubiquitous 2000 cal a day for women and out of that saying you shouldnt have more than 78g of fat, I didnt look at the protein and carb rates but its in that document

These are not the ratios I have in my own diet, my diet is very high in fat. Its about a third of each for mine

It's the eatwell plate. % vary slightly according to provider, but basically the same.

Thanks all.

It really surprised me - mainly because the protein was so low.

Im not clear if the plate/image is meant to be the percentage of calorie intake by those items, so 33% of your calories coming from complex carbs for example, or just the percentage by volume.

I may not have read it properly

Evenstar · 24/10/2024 22:33

There is an alternative to the NHS Eatwell plate, the Freshwell Plate which is much better
