Foodie/wine lovers on MJ

I start tomorrow, and I've just cooked a vast cauldron of West African peanut butter chicken and rice. I'll have a glass of wine later.

I feel like it's sort of a last supper. I can't wait to start, but I'm a bit nervous about losing my love of food and cooking? Will I still enjoy preparing meals? Will I still fancy a glass of wine or Champagne and enjoy it?

My main weight issue stems from CONSTANT snacking, eating food while I prepare it, having a little of this because it's in the fridge, trying out a bit of that because it's delicious, etc. I never eat huge quanities of anything, but I pretty much never stop grazing unless I'm asleep Grin

It’s likely to be a bit mixed. I sometimes have a meal that I really enjoy, but more often I’m quite ambivalent about food. But for me, that is what I needed. Some foods I just don’t fancy anymore, or I’ve noticed that they don’t taste the same and are less pleasant (sweet things can seem quite sickly).

HelloWorld2577 · 22/10/2024 20:26

I’m a mega foodie, still feel the same love for cooking etc. Just not as obsessive. Before if I found a new recipe I’d obsess over it until I tried it and ‘not be able to start my diet’ until I’d made the unhealthy recipe I’d been obsessing over which was stupid! But I’m sure others will relate!

youll still be a foodie just different

LionAndEmperor13 · 23/10/2024 09:31

I still really enjoy cooking (and eating) nice food, just much less of it. And I restrict calories a lot for breakfast and lunch. And I still have a glass of wine with dinner.

Itsabitweirdinhereinnit · 23/10/2024 09:44

Ive lost all interest tbh, I dont really bother cooking for myself anymore. I’m eating healthy, good quality food, but its basically a hard boiled egg in the morning, and when I get hungry through the day I’ll throw one of those steam veg bags in the micro, or a bit of salad in a bowl, and top with one of those seafood mixes with a bit of aromat for flavour. This last weekend various family members brought in burger king meals, a turkish mixed grill/kebabs, and made a fry up. I didnt have a single bite. Not because I was trying to be ‘good’, I just really didnt want it. But honestly, isnt this how the injection is meant to be working? I dont get spending hundreds on an appetite suppressant drug to lose weight, and then complaining you dont fancy eating

BookishType · 23/10/2024 09:49

I’ve lost all interest in food and how have to force myself to eat. I never snack anymore, there is zero inclination.

This is frustrating for my husband who’s a huge foodie and loves to cook for me. But it’s been beyond fantastic for me.

I’ll still have a glass of wine to be sociable, but it’ll take me 4 hours to drink it!

Swissrollover · 23/10/2024 10:13

I still enjoy food and wine, just consume a lot less of them. I am less interested in cooking though.

My adult son has recently taken over cooking dinner which has helped, although I still do the shopping and meal planning.

toadinthebucket · 23/10/2024 10:17

I was worried about this as I'm a foodie and one of my favourite passtimes is eating out with friends. I still enjoy the food, but don't obsess over it. Instead of stuffing myself full, i just eat much smaller portions and it still really enjoy it.

I've never enjoyed cooking so that's not an issue, but my partner is a fantastic cook. I'm still enjoying his food, just much smaller portions.

I actually think this is the way forward as i don't want to stop the injections later on down the line and go back to stuffing myself. Enjoying small portions is the way forward.

HippoPortlyMouse · 23/10/2024 10:24

I haven't lost my love of food, I just eat much smaller portions and don't snack. Eat the delicious food! Making a big cauldron of food just means more portions for the freezer and easy dinners/lunches ahead.

AnnaMagnani · 23/10/2024 10:28

Still interested in cooking. Still interested in wine.

However fat, especially cheese and cream are out as they make me feel sick. Sometimes I still make an exception and take some Gaviscon.

healthybychristmas · 23/10/2024 10:29

To be honest you are saying I love eating a lot I love drinking a lot and how is this drug going to affect me? How do you think an appetite suppressant is going to affect you?

Great question. I'm only starting my 5th week but I've found a couple of days before injection day are the only times I really want to cook / eat something substantial. Other than that I'm forcing myself to cook and eat. What I will say is that my appetite is reduced, so even when I'm cooking something delicious on the rare occasion, I still eat less!

Okay, yes, but my thread isn't really about the suppressing appetite part - it's to do with the whole enjoyment of the food I DO eat. Food is more than just the thing that fills you up.

I actually tested myself out this evening - I made a clam linguine for the kids, and didn't feel like eating it while I cooked it, which I usually would (I'm eating later with DH). I ate a little of the clams, but didn't want any more, which is SO unlike me. I really enjoyed what I ate though - I would feel a little sad to lose my appreciation of food!

I'm curious to see what happens with the wine. I love a glass or two over the course of an evening (not every night), so I'll see how that pans out. We usually have a bottle of fizz on a Friday evening, and I want to NOT want it, but also WANT it, equally atm Grin

I've actually found myself appreciating food a bit more tbh. I know I can't eat nearly as much so I make what I can eat count. We eat a lot of rice/noodle based meals and I have found myself just eating the main sauce/meat/veg bit and leaving the carbs that are essentially fillers.

I'm only three weeks in, I've had two small glasses of wine (separate evenings) Enjoyed them but couldn't drink anymore. Bit sad about that but also glad because alcohol has always been my trigger to eat snacks and then not go to the gym the next day because I felt groggy.

BrotherUrgh · 23/10/2024 19:58

Admittedly I’m on Wegovy, not MJ, but I find I can eat nice food more often now than I could before, albeit in smaller portions. Before to lose weight I had to do Keto and I’m still v low carb most of the time. If I have a pastry now though, it fills me up and I don’t sugar crash all over the shop. I feel like I can actually enjoy food more now, just less of it. I hope that makes sense!

Itsmeamandaberry · 23/10/2024 20:13

Lost all interest in food and any alcohol. I'm forcing myself to eat and I'm finding it a chore

It depends how it affects you, but I would still enjoy a glass of fizz, but I would be “done” with it much earlier. I wouldn’t want to open a second or third bottle with himself; the couple of glasses from the first bottle would satisfy me.
(I’m on the top dose of Wegovy a while now btw. Bloody expensive but it is doing the job!)

letshavetea · 23/10/2024 20:52

I really love my food and wine. I’m definitely less bothered by food (planning and thinking about). Can’t say try same about wine and am having to make myself not have it! Otherwise this very expensive drug has no chance! I’m definitely still not a make a glass last all evening type!
