Hi

Can anyone help with the following please before I start these injections?

  1. I'm under investigation by the GP for a cyst on my ovaries. I've got a 50 week wait to see the consultant. I don't want to wait 50 weeks to start taking these injections. Does anyone have any practical experience of this? I have a telephone consultation with my GP this week, so will raise it, but wondered if anyone has practical experience?

  2. I'm running my first half marathon spring 2025. Will these injections take my energy away for the race?

  3. My hairdresser is getting these injections via a private provider for £150 for 16 weeks. She said she couldn't tell me who, as it would break the practitioners license. Does anyone know of any private providers supplying at this price? Feel free to DM me if you do please!

TIA

Cannot help with 1&2 but for 3, please don't do this! It is unlikely that your hairdresser is getting a genuine GLP1 med for that price so god only knows what she is injecting into her body!

If you get the all clear from your gp, look at a list of REPUTABLE, REGISTERED providers somewhere like here and expect to pay £110 per month plus.

Hairdresser told me her provider is a registered reputable provider. She did a bulk order for friends and family, and is supplying to them at cost price+ 5%

Well the NHS buy at around £90 per unit so no way is 16 weeks' worth (4 pens) £150 I’m afraid!

Do yourself a real favour and buy from a registered pharmacist or you may well be the next person seated opposite Dr Hilary stating that the 'skinny jab' you got from your hairdresser made you ill!

Doggymummar · 20/10/2024 14:13

I don't understand question 1 - why is this worth mentioning? I'm waiting for a hysterectomy and have been on it for 18 months.

Question 2 it doesn't take away my energy, just fuel your body with correct nutrition

Question 3 No but I'm sure you will be sent details of countless unlicensed people same as dodgy fags and booze

She's looking fabulous on them and not suffered any side effects, bar a few days here and there of feeling sick.

My brother used to work for NHS procurement, and he used to get very frustrated with the mark up on products the tax payer funded. So what you say doesn't surprise me.

thursdaymurderclub · 20/10/2024 14:25

lol registered reputable provider. i highly doubt that, but if you are happy injecting whatever concoction of drugs your pre-filled pens contain.. good luck

Time4changeagain · 20/10/2024 14:29

STAY WELL AWAY….. Just because she says that she’s getting them from a “ registered reputable provider“ doesn’t mean she is. Also if she’s selling them on she’s just as shady as the place she’s buying from and needs reporting!!

You will probably have more energy for the race if you have lost weight and you are fuelling your body 😄

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 20/10/2024 14:54

OP, please think about this. A 'registered, reputable provider' who cannot disclose their identity because it would 'break their licence'? Please see how these two things completely contradict each other and don't touch this shonky arrangement with a bargepole.

TiredOfNames · 20/10/2024 15:00

For 1. Speak to your GP this week then and see what they say. You can also call or go into one of the reputable pharmacies listed and speak to a pharmacist to see what they advice. I won't be surprised if they all say to wait for your consultant to give the all clear though.

For 2. It depends. It can make some people very tired but it can also help boost your energy. You'll only know when you start taking it as bodies are different. You can take precautions to boost some energy with essential vitamins and minerals.

For 3. You sound like you already want to and likely will. I'd still join others to say don't do it. The horror stories often come from such practices but people never admit to it. Your hairdresser is also bulk buying and selling licensed drugs without a license. That's a crime. Her drug dealer is also commiting one if she knows telling you would break their license. Think of who you want to associate with and these are the people who always say "I know a friend who did x and had y happen" to rubbish the actual Mounjaro and legitimate purchasers and users of the medication.

NoTouch · 20/10/2024 16:17

The drugs in Mounjaro or Wegovy can be bought from the US and imported into the UK illegally in compound (powder) form. Mixed up with fuck know what, by any random person, in who knows what type of conditions, who knows what strengths and sold in syringes.

Mounjaro or Wegovy seem to be fairly unstable medications. They have very special storage conditions and must be kept refrigerated. Once a 4 dose pen's seal (which reseals after each injection) is broken for the first time you discard after 4 weeks. How on earth can powder mixed with water be safe in an unsealed syringe?

She can't tell you their name because they are illegal and for good reasons.

Anyone who buys these syringes is playing Russian Roulette.

The legal, safe versions are only available from registered pharmacies.

Every media story about people becoming very ill is these illegal versions bought through hairdressers, don't be stupid and buy that stuff. You could really do yourself some irreversible harm. They are controlled prescription only medications for a reason.

July24MJ · 20/10/2024 16:36

1 & 3 are also linked .... who or what is the "registered reputable supplier" that your hairdresser is using? And how is that different to e.g. a pharmacist or GP who can prescribe? Because I know my (private) pharmacist took a good half-hour to discuss my other health concerns and existing medication ... so whilst I can never predict the future, I am as sure as I can be that I was prescribed the medication knowing that it wont interact negatively with anything I told my pharmacist about. Can you hairdresser offer that?

In terms of price - you should be banking on the £150 per month from an actual reputable prescriber. So, I could offer the advice of "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is". This is actual medication & our health at stake, it's a big, serious decision .... it's not something our hairdressers should be handing out.

I apologise if that sounds harsh, but I've been on prescribed-by-a-pharmacist Mounjaro for 4 months with regular check-ins with them - not a chance would I buying "something" from my hairdresser (even if she reckons she's not had any side affects personally). My hairdresser does a marvellous job of cutting & colouring my hair, she's raising 4 kids, is funny & clever & caring ..... but I know her limits.

LionAndEmperor13 · 20/10/2024 23:07

re Q2, I've had boundless energy since I started MJ in June. I've started running again and am really enjoying it, and of course it's also helping with my weight loss. Depends on the person though, I've read lots on here about people who experience fatigue.
I've been extremely lucky to not have any side effects at all - I did 1 month of 2.5 and then 3 months of 5mg.

Globules · 21/10/2024 20:37

My hairdresser isn't selling them @TiredOfNames @July24MJ and others. She's purchasing them from her provider for her own personal use. My hairdresser is not selling them on. We had a good chat about how well she's getting on with the injections whilst refusing to tell me where she's getting them for herself so cheaply. Having re-read my posts, I can see how it might read as if my hairdresser is offering to sell them to me.

Thanks to those with helpful advice.

@Globules “Hairdresser told me her provider is a registered reputable provider. She did a bulk order for friends and family, and is supplying to them at cost price+ 5%”

I’d re-read your posts again if I were you….
“She did a bulk order for friends and family, and is supplying to them at cost price+ 5%”
IS DEFINITELY classed as selling them on!

Globules · 22/10/2024 00:39

The hairdresser's provider is selling them on to the hairdresser @Time4changeagain 😉

In that sentence She = The registered reputable provider.

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 22/10/2024 00:42

She is not a reputable provider of prescription medication if she's selling on cheaply in bulk! This is a prescribed medicine that shouldn't be sold in this way it should be prescribed by a pharmacist under the guidance of a doctor. Just so totally wrong and irresponsible.

Angrymum22 · 22/10/2024 00:51

This is the first time that I’ve seen evidence of dealing and pushing in weight loss drug industry.
It is common in Botox and fillers, fake chemicals, usually plain water, dressed up as cheap cosmetic products and pushed and sold to the unsuspecting public.
Your hairdresser may well be using legit chemicals but selling fake stuff as a sideline. They are notorious for scamming people with cosmetic drugs.
It’s the legitimate provider wording which is suspicious. With Botox you need to use a legal provider/prescriber. Maybe she thinks that using similar title to reassure customers.
It’s the perfect scam, “look at how much weight I’ve lost” followed by “I can supply you the stuff dirt cheap”.
It was only a matter of time before the beauty industry got in on the act.

Manyshelves · 22/10/2024 00:56

It seems odd to me that you’re worrying about 1 and 2, but prepared to risk 3 🤷🏼‍♀️

Manyshelves · 22/10/2024 01:05

I would hope people wouldn’t be daft enough to fall for this

Adelstrop · 22/10/2024 08:07

Well, if your hairdresser isn't selling the fake MJ on, and won't tell you who she got it from (because it's illegal), then you will have to get yours from a legitimate supplier. Problem solved!

Lets assume they are genuine Mounjaro in genuine Kwikpens or genuine Wegovy in genuine Flextouch pen (highy unlikely, has she told you which one it is she getting and what format you get it in?)

They are prescription only, can legally only be prescribed and sold by a registered pharmacy. They are only available in the UK in Kwik or Flex touch pens, anything else is illegal imports from the US or China and very dangerous.

Do you honestly believe someone who has studied for years to become a pharmacist is going to risk their registration and livelihood selling anonymously to friends of friends for no real profit?

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Stop being a mug and defending/believing her.
