Losing muscle, gaining fat

I’m 10lb down on Mounjaro but my scales are showing I’m increasing in fat and losing muscle. Is there any way of rectifying this?

Scales that show these figures are widely inaccurate as all they do is pass a current up one leg across the pelvis and down the other and make some estimates based on the result and your stats (height, sex, age etc). If you had massive muscley middle/upper torso and arms it wouldn't know.

Eat more protein, do some strength training I think are the only ways. Upping your daily steps could help too (if you are not able to exercise yet). Another one is avoiding over suppression and too rapid weight loss as you lose muscle as well as fat.

Eating plenty of protein about 100g and strength training

Get to the gym, strength train.

That's a bit disconcerting. The scales may be wonky. But looks like you're not alone in losing muscle:

'GLP-1 agonists have been celebrated for their potency in reducing body mass, but lean mass accounts for an alarming proportion of this weight loss.'

Perhaps increase your protein intake, with plant proteins, like beans, etc.

How much has your fat gone up by? And is this a week on week gain of fat and loss of muscle?

You need to over eating to gain fat.

These measurements on scales are wildly inaccurate. You can really only track trends over weeks and weeks on them. If this is just one weigh in I wouldn’t worry.

TheBoldHelper · 27/10/2024 11:43

How much protein are you eating and exercise are you getting? These are key when losing weight, on any diet, not just th4 jabs, you need to maintain muscle mass. If you don’t eat enough protein and are quite sendentary you will lose muscle mass. But you shouldn’t be gaining fat. So I’d suggest the scales are just wonky.

Don't these sorts of scales report fat percentage and muscle percentage, not total fat and total muscle? Presumably the OP means that the fat percentage has increased and muscle mass percentage decreased. So not a gain of fat, but a relative loss of more muscle than the amount of fat lost.

Those things work on electrical conductivity and can be (often are) about 20% off.

As others have said, maintain your protein intake (1g per kg or so) and do a little bit of exercise to tell your body you need to prioritise burning fat rather than breaking down muscle.

That makes sense,,,
