Only 1 month on MJ

I'm in my second week of MJ and I found out this week that I'm getting made redundant. I won't be able to afford MJ. I'm so gutted as I'm 6lbs down in my first week and feel a million times better. While I'll try to keep up the weight loss without it I'm worried it'll all go so wrong. I have so much weight still to lose. What do I do? Do I scrape together enough for one more month of MJ or accept my fate and prioritise paying my bills. Is there anything I can do? I don't have a partner so there's no financial backup and no savings.

You can get big reductions on the cost if you join one of the pharmacies which offer discounts for referrals - Voy or Med Express.

For example, when I joined Voy, I originally cancelled the first order due to the cost. Went back on a week or two later and as I had shared my friends referral code I had 3 referrals on there and a free pen. (they have stopped doing a free pen now but you can get 60% off for 3 referrals or 30% for two). I just tend to share it in the Promo codes section on this site or the thread for Referral codes - pm me if you would like my code for a referral to start with that would get you 35% off. (you could then cancel that after if it was too expensive then still use the referrals if needed, but I am unsure if they will cancel it if it has already been approved / dispatched

The other one which does this is Med Express- I'm not aware of any others but there are discounts here too www.monj.co.uk

With Med Express it's £40 off (I think, I'm not with them) and then it seems the referrals are accumulative, £40 off for a referral, again with a code.

I have heard of someone going on Tick tock or Insta and sharing their codes in there if you're into that sort of thing.

I suppose you could do something like look at e.g. Credit karma and put it on a credit card if you are wish as well. (not sure I should recommend that but I have used this in the past- you can swap to a zero percent card with a transfer as well to avoid interest.)

The final thing I could think of is www.oviva.co.uk This is a NHS tier 3 online service which may prescribe Wegovy if BMI is over 35 and possibly with other health conditions, could ask the GP about this. Hope some of this is helpful

Also, many seem to mention their shopping bill goes down anyway so that might be something to take into account.

The other thing is to use the leftover liquid in the pen after 4 injections as an extra dose to make a pen last for 5 weeks, so two pens would get you to 10 weeks of injections. If you have the time to chase discounts as Orangesandlemons77 says, then that could make it affordable after that.

But, paying bills in the short term is more important and I wouldn't get into debt when you may not have a job for a while. You can get back onto Mounjaro once you're financially stable,

For the left over liquid, how does that work when you're supposed to dispose after 30 days?

Oh that's really crap, I'm sorry. I'm afraid I would prioritise paying the bills but I'd also go all out to get another job in the hope of being able to keep going.

Thanks. I think the reality is that a code will only help for 1 month so I think I'll have to just restart when I secure work.

Honestly, if you have only done a month I would stop when you run out and restart when you have a new job.

It isn't worth getting yourself in a mess for.

Hopefully you will get something new quickly

Yeah I think you're right. I'll see if I can afford 1 more month as maybe 2 months of better habits means I can keep going without it.

For future reference, 5 doses fits within 30 days, eg 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Does it not only have to be used within 30 days if not stored in a fridge though ? Please could someone clarify ?

It should always be used within 30 days of the first dose, whether in the fridge or not

NoTouch · 20/10/2024 11:01

Sorry about your redundancy. Hopefully you will find another job soon and can afford to restart then.

The last time I was made redundant and I was between jobs I found I lost weight and got fitter as I had a few things working in my favour - the biggest was having time.

I had time to meal plan to the last penny so ate better, I walked to the shops for fresh food when needed so none was wasted as I had time.

I had time to walk 1.5 miles each way to drop/pick ds up from school instead of a quick car dash before and after work. 6 miles of walking a day - 3 uphill and 3 downhill carrying a scooter! (I was tempted to use it at times but scared I'd fall off!)

I was moving a lot more as I did lots of work around the house that had been neglected due to being too busy. My legs and arms were agony in the first weeks which showed just how poor my condition had been.

Not having the stress of work, but keeping busy, made me snack less.

I think I would be much healthier if I didn't work! (but like most people I need the money so no choice!)

FlappingMadly · 20/10/2024 11:06

Sorry about the redundancy. You can look up 5:3 or 5:2 or intermittent fasting. Do some resistance work such as push ups if you don’t belong to a gym. Get your steps in which will keep your mood up.

From the instruction leaflet in the box.

There are different storage instructions for unused and used pens.

There is lots of other information in the two leaflets provided, both worth a good read.

Don’t think I have been doing that as I have been using the bonus dose.

I agree with everything in this post. My advice is to not buy a second pen but use the extra time while not working - once you have done your job hunting for the day - to walk and meal plan. This will help save money on petrol, public transport, convenience foods and takeaways AND the exercise will help your mental health.

Good luck on securing new work soon. I got made redundant once. Now when I look back I am really glad it happened as it was an opportunity for a fresh start in a better company.

If you use then pen on days 1, 8, 15 and 22 for four doses then you take the bonus dose on day 29 so it's fine.
