Mounjaro maintenance

Only a few lbs to go ,and I will have reached a happy weight .I'm 66 and 5ft 6in and going from 15.1st will be happy about 11-10st .Only taken 2.5mg ,then 3.75, then 5mg.
Bmi would be about 26.5.
I know I could go down a few less lbs than that , but quite happy at a size 14 ( and not too wrinkly).
I've been reading stories about so many people stopping jabs and putting all the weight back on .
Has anyone came to the end of their journey and successfully working at keeping the weight off.
I've been on so many diets in my life, and each time put it all back on .
On a personal note, my parents died very young and I don't want to reach my demise having been on a diet , most of my life.
Can I do this and maintain ??
Have I been reading to many negative stories ??
Or do I keep buying the pens , and use a low dose for a wee while ?

Congratulations on your loss!

I use Oushk and they have a lot of information on maintenance and their pharmacist is a big advocate for this. Have a look at their website. I’m not at that point yet but will definitely be using Mounjaro for a long time as I feel it helps me with much more than just weight loss.

Sorry to hijack but I'd like to know wether someone on wegovy at the max dosage can change to mounjaro at the first dosage and continually take mounjaro - hopefully little to no side effects?

Zippitydoodaa · 18/10/2024 22:40

@TheWildRoseBear I think you're right. Mounjaro really changes your mindset and i think it's all about not wanting to eat sugary, stodgy treats in between meals. Also eating much smaller portions. I think i might do a maintenance plan for some time instead of worrying about the end time .
I'm enjoying the new eating habits, so i might get used to taking it long term, on smaller doses.

You can change to 5mg directly if you are on 1.7mg or 2.4mg of wegovy. (My sister did this and was told by pharmacist that this will be safe and effective).

I think this will allow you to start using your will power more to make better choices

Following this thread. I’m on mounjaro aswell still in my first month. My goals is to lose 4 stones and i want to stop completely. I’m wondering is it possible to maintain without mounjaro?

There is also a reddit sub on maintenance and there is someone there with Cloud pharmacy who is doing one month on / one month on with 5mg, sounds interesting.

@Orangesandlemons77 Very interesting read.
I think as with any diet they’ll always be a percentage of people who will regain the weight, especially those perhaps that are just eating less rather than having a huge lifestyle overhaul & using this opportunity to swap to a much healthier diet.
Although it doesn’t sound very optimistic for those of us on it, however we have to bear in mind that these research results are on hundreds of participants rather than the many thousands of people who are actually taking it presently. Also the BMI of the participants were very high, and perhaps the results of those of us who have less weight to lose in comparison, although still a lot for us on a personal level, might be much better.
I think there is far more learn as to why some people gain weight & become obese in the first place, & it is far more complex than was previously thought. One of the most positive outcomes of these weight loss jabs is that finally people are now beginning to understand that, & that it’s not a simple case of “fat” people are just more greedy.
Maintenance plans are only, of course, in their very early stages, & that it’s going to many years of trials & errors before there is proper data on what happens once jabs like MJ are no longer taken. Perhaps they’ll always be a percentage of people who will always need to be a maintenance dose long term, and hopefully a percentage of people who do very well after just a short treatment & then stop for good.
I realise this post makes me sound a bit nerdy- so apologies!
Also on a personal note I have no intention of ever regaining the weight I am losing.

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/10/2024 14:47

I thought it sounded positive in terms of the people staying on it didn't regain, and also the other measures such as cholesterol being better (I have quite high cholesterol and not keen on statins)

I'm quite interested in this approach from the Cloud pharmacy taking one month on and one off, might be a chance to see how I manage without that. (also be cheaper paying once every two months) That or the Oushk approach of being able to swap from monitoring without meds to a monthly dose. there already seems to be some good options around.

I have another reason to be interested in these meds longer term, I have a higher genetic risk of Alzheimers (APOE4 gene) and these meds are being trialled as helpful with this. I nearly got on a trial for wegovy for this but I'm not old enough (need to be 55 plus)
