I've spent months reading people's posts about Mounjuro, and thinking 'I wish I could try that,' and it literally only dawned on me yesterday that maybe I can. I'm not sure what was stopping me.

I'm a shade over 12 stone and want to get back to pre kids weight of 9.6 ish. I eat healthy foods, have a wide range of healthy fresh stuff, but I snack a LOT and I'm grazing all the time.

My questions are:

Does everyone start on the lowest dose of 2.5?
Do people generally lose weight on that dose, or is that just an adjustment phase?
There's real disparity between the prices of the pens - are there good places to buy and ones to avoid? I'd love to go as cheap as possible this side of Christmas!
I get migraines and I have ADHD but not taking any medications - are either of those a factor?

Thanks everyone, I'm really excited!

I can answer some of your questions.

Yes, everyone starts on 2.5 mg; it's to get your body used to the medication. Some people (like me), get appetite suppression and good weight loss on 2.5, others don't feel any benefit until they move up to 5 mg in the second month.

There is a list of comparative costs in one of the threads on here. I can't remember which, but I think suppliers such as MedExpress or Oushk come out cheaper than, say Superdrug. Some suppliers offer more support than others, so what you pay may reflect what you want. You need to look at several suppliers to make a decision.

Sorry, I don't know anything about migraines or ADHD, but someone may be along who does.

Good luck!

The first question is whether or not your BMI is over 30. Unless you are quite short, that seems unlikely. If your BMI is not in the obese range then you won't be prescribed it.

In terms of your actual questions:

Does everyone start on the lowest dose of 2.5?
Yes.

Do people generally lose weight on that dose, or is that just an adjustment phase?
Some do, many don't. It's not considered a therapeutic dose, but it depends on how sensitive you are to the medication.

The pens are the same wherever you get them from. They come with disposable needles, and many pharmacies also supply a small sharps bin and swabs. Some of the cheaper ones don't, or you have to pay extra for them. Some pharmacies provide additional services like counselling, extra support/coaching and so on. It depends if you want that additional support. Some pharmacies you can pick up your prescription from their in-store pharmacies rather than have it delivered (Asda, Superdrug, Boots) so that might be relevant to you.

This website keeps an updated list of current suppliers, for both Mounjaro and Wegovy. https://www.missmounjarouk.com/

No idea. I know there are posters with migraines and posters with ADHD who are taking Mounjaro, so it isn't a bar as far as I can tell. When you fill out the online consultation it will ask about your medical history and about specific conditions.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate you both replying. No, my BMI isn't quite high enough - I'm 5.5. Argh! I've seen other posters with the same stats (roughly) as me on Mounjuro. Do people just tweak the figures?

@Cheris - So my BMI when I started was 28. I'm 5ft 6 and at the time, weighed (after lunch) 12 stone.

However, I have long-standing back issues (not weight related but back issues nonetheless). My cholesterol is also slightly high. I ticked these boxes and got prescribed without any issues. I believe other factors to allow a prescription with a BMI of under 30 include depression, bad knees.

I went with Voy (using a discount code). They don't ask for your GP's details nor do they verify the information you give them (i.e. they didn't ask for evidence of my back issues). They do require a full length photo but mine was approved no problem.

I started on 2.5mg in July. I'm now still on 5mg and have lost just over two stone in that time. I'm three pounds or so off my goal weight.

Hello! Another ADHD'er here. I was worried that it would not help with my need to snack. I am not on medication for ADHD (due to waitlists).
I am on my 3rd week on Mounjaro. The first week my appetite reduced massively. This 3rd week, snacking does appeal a bit more. I am going to ask about this in my post.

It can be 27 and over if you have a weight-related health condition as well. Certain ethnicities also qualify with a BMI of 27 or over.

I'm not going to suggest that you or other people "tweak" the figures, and a decent pharmacy should be doing as much as they can to check that people meet the prescribing criteria. So, many require photos, ID, and so on. Pharmacies that break the prescribing criteria either deliberately by being unscrupulous or carelessly by not doing enough checks are subject to sanctions from the GPhC.

Because I just linked to it on another thread, I have this link to hand:

It's a collaboration of all the hints and tips, Q&A that has cropped up on the long running main thread (the one currently at Part 22). It might be useful to you, OP?
