Mounjaro on NHS?

Hi, so I’ve been on the waiting list for weight management services for nearly a year now, tried calorie counting, slimming world, fasting diets, everything but struggle losing weight. I’ve started Mounjaro 3 weeks ago and have lost 11.5lb which is amazing!! (I do have alot to lose) I’m just wondering if I finally get my weight mgt appointment, can they then prescribe for you on the NHS? I’m paying at the moment and not sure how long I’ll be able to afford it for as I go up the doses

I really have no money. We're struggling to keep up with increases in bills at the moment. I'd live a better job partly to be able to afford it. It really feels like it's all wrong at the moment. Job is crap, I'm morbidly obese and it affects what jobs I can go for and were struggling financially 😭.
I have just done right to choose for adhd and was hoping if I got meds it might help but that's a side route in and may not solve it. I think it's why I can't stick to anything. I am permanently exhausted now.

@SageBlossomBunny totally understand, it's an expensive route to fund a private prescription. Hopefully the ADHD treatment will help and give you a chance to address the weight.

I would love this I'm over40. I think I'm over 50 😳.
I think our tier 3 doesn't do injections and I'm too scared of an operation.

I'm so worried about the effect it's all having on me and can't afford to pay privately.

Also... Doesn't everyone put it back on when they stop???

You could try the Oviva (link above) via the GP?

Well, you’ve likely got at least six months. If not longer to retrain your eating habits. If you can’t, you can stay on a maintenance dose. So effectively you can be on for life.

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/10/2024 17:40

I think the NHS can prescribe wegovy for up to two years currently.

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/10/2024 17:42

But seems different for mounjaro, privately anyway.

Lulubear50 · 17/10/2024 17:53

Over 4 million people are entitled to weight loss injections under the NHS criteria. At the moment only around 55,000 people receiving them. I can’t see the NHS can afford to give everybody entitled injections and there is insufficient supply.

Have you ever asked to be referred to Tier 3? My friend told me about them, although I’ve been on the list for about a year. From her experience, they can start with medication called orlistat, which blocks your body’s absorption of fat. It’d quite cheap to buy privately in comparison to Mounjaro/GLP1 injections. I’d definitely speak to your GP and see what they advise. I’ve been worried about how I’ll keep up with the cost of my Mounjaro, I’ve started making Tik Tok videos and putting my code in the caption and I’ve earnt about £300 which will cover me for at least 2 months 🤞🏻

Rubbish and rubbish.

@Orangesandlemons77 I’m using medexpress at the moment. You can get £40 off your first order and they then give you your own referral code, every time someone uses it you get another £40 off your next order. If you’d like my code let me know, there are lots out there

Has anyone managed to get anything prescribed by the NHS?

I'm really thinking about taking in extra hours to afford this now.

Have you ever tried orlistat? That’s fairly easy to get prescribed compared to the injections xx

I really don't want to do that.
