How will I know what to do?

After chatting with DH this morning, I've made the decision to go ahead and order Mounjaro tonight. I spent a few hours last night reading threads and you all seem knowledgeable! How can I find information on how the jabs are administer? How the pens work etc.

Thank you.

You'll get full instructions with your pen. Also, depending on who you went with, there might be an app with little videos for you to copy. I'm with Voy, they have videos.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 08/10/2024 14:07

Once you have done your research into a prescriber to suit your needs, apply and, once approved, they will send through all the information you need. If in doubt, there are links on the first post of the main 'continuing mounjaro' threads on here for videos of how to do the jabs etc.

If in any further doubt, ask away! We are all happy to help with any questions

The instruction leaflet is very good, I've been taking it a while now but do get it out each time and follow the steps just to make sure I'm doing it correctly and not missing anything out. I also make sure I fill in the date taken boxes on the leaflet.

The only bit that I wasn't clear on initially is, that regardless of which dose you are taking (if it's week 1, 2, 3 or 4) you always turn the dial to 1 before injecting. I wasn't sure on week 2 if i should expect to see a 2 in the window. No, always to 1, there are no higher numbers. This will make sense once you start.

Good luck, hope it works for you x

I'll try and remember that.

I was really apprehensive when I started but the instructions that came with the pen were great and once I finally plucked up the courage to inject I didn’t feel a thing! You will be fine 😀

Is it also normal to be feeling a bit emotional about starting?

It really is! There are nerves, hope, joy at the thought of doing something for yourself.

The leaflet is good but I also watched a couple YouTube videos demonstrating how to inject. I find it better to SEE what I need to do.

Mel2023 · 08/10/2024 16:51

I’ve gone with Asda and am picking up my pen tonight. Very nervous about starting, mainly about if I’ll get side effects or not and how bad will they be. When I got the email to confirm it had been approved, they sent so much information including how to administer it. My DH will be doing it as I absolutely cannot do needles!

Justme2023123 · 08/10/2024 17:15

It probably won't be as bad as you think @Mel2023 I'm not great with needles but find them very painless to do this.

Snozzlemaid · 08/10/2024 18:18

Just read everything on the pharmacy website and then read the leaflet in whole at first when you get it.
Then follow each step one at a time when you're ready to inject.

And you can always ask on here if you're not sure of anything.
It's an incredibly supportive group.

HangDai · 08/10/2024 18:42

The injections are really easy. I was nervous for the first one but don't even think about it now.

Though I did do the first month in my thigh I found it a bit sore, but now switched to stomach and barely feel a thing.

MrsMrsD · 08/10/2024 19:01

Excited for you! You'll get full instructions don't worry. I watched a YouTube video a couple of times first too. I ate a bit of breakfast then jabbed an hour later. No side effects at all, I've been great on it. I purchased through medexpress and have a money off number if anyone wants it x

Tulip8 · 08/10/2024 19:16

I've been trying to use pharmacy 2U but my order won't go through for some reason. I'll keep trying!

All ordered! Just waiting for approval (should get it, my BMI is 42) and then it will be dispatched. Eek!

I had my first jab this morning, like you, incredibly nervous. Looked on YouTube for a clinician showing a step by step video which I played and paused as I followed the steps, it was so much easier that I allowed myself to imagine it was. I was a bit emotional like you as well. Good luck, you can do this!

Tulip8 · 09/10/2024 11:12

Approved! Due for delivery on Monday.

Is it also normal to be feeling a bit emotional about starting?

I think so. It may have just been me but after I injected it I did have a few tears. There was just this sadness where I thought 'is this what I have come to, injecting myself in the bathroom because I won't stop eating?'. It didn't last long and I think it was more down to the shock of doing it. But it took me by surprise a bit because I'm normally more pragmatic than that.

Since it passed, all has been well, so it was a just a one-off.

Tulip8 · 09/10/2024 14:10

I think that's it, I'm at my lowest, all other attempts have failed and I'm feeling a great shame that I have to take medication because my need to eat can't be controlled by willpower alone.

And then I feel optimistic, I feel like this could finally be my road to normality. Could I actually be a normal weight? Weirdly I don't even care about getting my bmi down. I just want to be a more normal dress size, not worry about breaking a chair, be able to have a bath, not dread a lift being out of order, not be embarrassed and self conscious when meeting new people....

And then I worry it won't work because I've put so much hope in to it!

There are videos online about using the pens, but I'll be honest, if you're planning on using them the way they are prescribed, the step by step instructions (with illustrations!) included in the box are very clear and all I used when I got started.

I've been using it for 2.5 months now and I still check the paper to make sure I'm doing the right thing! 😆

I hear you, OP. That was me in April. Now 6 pounds off goal weight and I still can’t quite believe I’m a normal weight again. And yes, that’s quite emotional too. From the other side, best of luck!
