Mental health impacts

Has anyone noticed any changes to their mental health, either good or bad? I think I am less anxious. I'm on antidepressants and might be able to lower the dose if it carries on I think.

Maybe it is a result of not having the sugar ups and downs, and also beating myself up less

My mental health is amazing now. Very stable, no ups and downs. My lazy days are fewer and far between and even though the weather is awful, I don't feel anywhere near as seasonally depressed as I usually sob

Do, not sob! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm just at start of week 3, I've been feeling noticeably very happy, cheerful and positive since I started. Whether it's Mj or being on my healthy diet, I'm not sure. But I am also feeling more tired than usual.

I don’t really suffer with my mental health formally, but I have been dealing with work related stress recently. Which likely contributed to my weight gain from slim to obese.

I feel better to a certain extent by taking Mounjaro. It’s like I’m being proactive, sorting my health out, taking one issue off my plate, controlling something at a time where I feel I have no control etc. However ultimately work is still stressful, it’s just that I don’t have the cycle of also feeling down about my changing appearance and the heavy scales etc. I’m 5kg away from healthy weight, but I’ll probably keep going until I lose around 15kg and get back to my pre-obesity weight. So overall I’d say there has been zero to minimal positive impact to my mental health.

I wanted to make you aware though, that the active ingredient in Mounjaro has a disclaimer about depression and risk of suicide: https://zepbound.lilly.com

Zepbound is the same medicine, but this is what it is called in the USA for the weight loss variant (with Mounjaro being the diabetes variant). I’m not sure why it isn’t listed under Mounjaro but it is for Zepbound, but I would consider the warning if it’s relevant for you and inform your healthcare provider if you notice changes in your mental health

I saw a video or podcast or something that helped explain the negative effects to mood. Basically, I currently eat a biscuit or lovely fresh bred + butter or drink alcohol when I'm stressed. Makes me feel better. Very effective! The injections take away the ability to do this - you can't comfort eat, so you feel stressed.

I've noticed the opposite.

I'm not stress eating so my mental health is more level. No swings when I eat "badly"

I'm taking my first injection tomorrow, and hoping it works this way for me. I have too many ups and downs with my comfort eating!

Honestly my mental health has improved ten fold since I started taking it

Me too. In my case because I found my weight - health and appearance-wise depressing and my failed efforts to get a grip made me feel bad about myself.

I am 4 injections in and genuinely feel amazing. I have been feeling a bit flat and fuzzy headed over the past few years and hadn’t really realised how badly it was affecting my mood and performance at work. Since starting Mounjaro I am loads more productive and my mind feels really sharp. No one has noticed my weight loss yet but a few colleagues have commented about how on top of things I seem to be at the minute.

I’m not sure if it is the elimination of the food noise giving me back some headspace, the fact that I’m eating more healthily, or relief that I am finally taking control of my health, or a positive side effect of the drug itself. Either way I hope it continues!
