Newbie - questions about starting, continuing and stopping treatment on Manjaro with PCOS

Hello,

I am 51, BMI 30.9 with 20kg to lose - currently 94.6kg. I also have PCOS with the added free gifts of insulin resistance, high bp and sleep apnoea. GP has referred me to tier 3 fat clinic but although it is possible to qualify for NHS treatment it is not probable since only a certain number so patients get offered treatment.

So I am considering Manjouro privately. My questions are:

  1. where is the cheapest place to get it?

  2. Can you switch providers once you have started? (like how exactly because once your BMI is below 30 you probably wouldn't qualify would you?)

  3. does anyone do a maintenance dose once you have reached a target weight?

  4. Anyone got any idea who long it will take to lose 20kg? (trying to cost out entire treatment)

  5. anything else you think a beginner should know about this?

Thank you for all your help and support.

kiwirose xx

Hi!

To answer your questions:

  1. Cheapest is usually Medexpress as they have a £40 off code for new starters. Loads of codes available on the MNHQ codes thread. Also, have a look here for updates on offers etc
  2. Yea you can. Many providers will take you on under 30 bmi as long as you can provide a copy of your previous prescription or photo of the prescription label from your last medication box.
  3. Yes. Oushk, the family chemist, cloud are amongst those that do. Have a look on individual sites for the ones you are interested in to see what they offer.
  4. You really cannot say how long it will take as everyone reacts differently. I have lost 23kgs in 16 weeks but others will have lost more/less.
  5. Read everything! Join the October starters thread on here, read the 'continuing mounjaro' threads, listen to podcasts etc as the more informed you are, the more confident you will feel! Also, don't compare yourself to others! As I said above, we are ALL very different and respond differently to the medication.
Good luck!

Have you been tested for diabetes yet?

Kiwirose · 07/10/2024 16:57

good t know @Orangesandlemons77 . I wonder why that might be.

@Ozanj yes. My GP has put me on a prediabetes course. Not tipped into diabetes yet but a high chance I will since I have PCOS

NBSL that is really encouraging. Sometimes with PCOS it feels like nothing will help! If it helps the discoloured skin on the neck that is a bonus.

I am hoping that if I lose weight that my insulin will be better and then my cravings will be better and then my eating will be better and then my entire life might improve. Fingers crossed.
