Small habit changes...

During my first week on Mounjaro, I noticed several changes in my habits that I hadn't initially realized, I wonder if anyone else has experienced similar.

I stopped snacking here and there. For example, I made cinnamon whirls the other day and didn't feel the urge to eat the icing or keep picking at them.

I began leaving food on my plate at dinner.

I cut out fizzy drinks from my diet. I didn't even notice!

I lost interest in chocolate and sweets.

I no longer feel the need to balance savoury and sweet flavours in my meals.

I used to have toast and peanut butter for breakfast, but I haven't missed it.

I don't feel any unpleasantness or cravings for the foods I used to have; they simply don't interest me anymore.

I still add sugar to my coffee, though 😁

I could write all that myself! It's like someone described me!

Yep. My desire for chocolate and crisps disappeared overnight. They're still in the cupboards. I could eat them if I wanted, but I don't have the desperate cravings that I did before. I made cookies for the children - didn't eat a single one. I remember looking at them and thinking "shall I...?" and the answer being "no, I don't really fancy that". From being a carb fiend, I now skip bread with meals and have smaller portions of rice or pasta with whatever the main part of the meal is. It's not deliberate, it's simply what I want to eat now.

I still need to work on my water intake, and coming from a background of calorie counting, am deliberately not counting calories, but am focusing on getting enough protein and keeping up my veg intake.

I've heard it described as "feeling like you've got a slim person's brain" and that really does sum it up well!

Yeah, stuff stays in the cupboard for aaagggges that would've been snaffled in no time previously. What I now need to do is stop buying it.

Totally lost interest in alcohol and nicotine too. Which has probably done more for my health than the modest weight loss.

We get individual stone baked pizzas from a pop up place most Fridays. I have gone from eating the whole pizza and buying a second one to eat the next day, to eating half the pizza and eating the second half the next day, to eating 2 slices on Friday night and eating 3 slices yesterday and throwing the last 2 slices out. This is unheard of.

I totally agree, it's amazing, no more picking whilst cooking dinner, or browsing the fridge when I'm working from home. And, for the first time in years I'm not automatically clearing my plate. It is like I've finally started to feel 'full'. Also, it hasn't stopped me drinking alcohol but I can have a drink and then stop, whereas before I would just carry on! Today was a revelation went to a wonderful bakery whilst my daughter was at a rehearsal and had an amazing cake that I didn't finish, I stopped when I'd had enough, two weeks ago (before starting mounjaro) I would've eaten all of the first and then had a second (which I actually did). I'm hoping these habits stick after I've got to my goal weight and stop the mounjaro.

Food habits for me were almost like resource gathering. I had to have as much as I could; otherwise, I would miss out.

That is amazing! I am so happy for you!

We won't know ourselves in a few months 😀

Also, I am getting more done, maybe because I don't have to deal with cravings.

Now that is a very interesting insight!

Yes totally agree
had chocolate on Sat not fancied it the last 5 weeks but had it guilt free and was satisfied with the bar and no need to eat more or binge.
i think the guilt I have felt for years that stems from childhood attached to food as ‘bad’ food and then adults saying things like ‘ oh not flushing cake you being good ‘ we are totally brain washed by it so it has been an amazing feeling not being controlled by cravings then a cycle of self disgust and guilt and blowing diets.

I remember going on a holiday years ago with a friend as a teenager and her family were all skinny and had breakfast then they wouldn’t really eat anything until evening I was starving !

I have noticed changes in my habits around others. Dh's family in particular MIL. I have realised that some people like you eating 'more' than them, or feeling that you are ordering e.g. cake, not them, and they can sort of push you into eating it.

I've got much stronger at just eating a little bit, or saying no, I don't fancy that, or I'm not hungry.

Yes think you are right it makes them feel better if you eating more than them

I found it makes an enormous difference. I've had absolutely no interest in alcohol though I was having a couple of glasses every day before that, for many years actually. I was having sweets every day and other junk and it never crosses my mind now. I would always have peanuts or crisps with my wine so that's another thing that's gone. It's really weird going shopping and buying exactly what you went in for. I can walk down a confectionery aisle or an alcohol aisle without even looking at what's on sale. It's been miraculous actually.
