Hi all
Looking for advice from people who are currently or have ever taken the GLP1 injections. I am keen to lose weight, just constantly hungry and no amount of self control can curb it.
I am nervous about the side effects however as I am currently on maternity leave with an 8 month old at home. His sleep is hit and miss so I really can't afford to have fatigue as a symptom as I'm already tired most of the time! Also nausea or other symptoms might not put me at my best to enjoy my last months of maternity leave. On the other hand, I am so keen to do something as currently I am just gaining despite posting 2 stone while pregnant.

Any advice welcome.

@Gr3atEscape do you currently have a BMI of 30 or over? That's the first step, to consider if you'd qualify for a private prescription for either Wegovy or Mounjaro.

You have to decide whether the ongoing risks and negative consequences of being obese are worth risking the possible side effects of weight loss injections. No one can say whether or not you'll get side effects that you find difficult to deal with but you have to accept that risk before starting on a treatment process of several months.

Hi,
I have a toddler at home and was in exact same boat: gaining weight and struggling with exhaustion due to lack of sleep. Decided to give it a shot (literally 😅) , order 1 pen and see how I will respond to it. I was lucky to have barely any side effects and very promising weight loss and decided to carry on. It isn't cheap but if I had to change my winter wardrobe (again) it wouldn't be cheap either!

And since I lost weight I have much more energy and carrying toddler around seems so much easier 🙃

Yes I definitely qualify. My question isn't really whether to go in the injection. More so if the side effects are impactful enough to affect my time at home with my baby

The side effects seem to vary considerably from person to person and depending on the dose. I was really tired in the first few weeks, but it's got better as I've gone on (and upped the dose). A couple of times, I had to take myself off for an afternoon nap, - I have a sedentary WFH desk job and get a good 7-8 hrs sleep a night. I think the only thing you can do is give it a go and see.

DanielaDressen · 04/10/2024 17:00

I’m on the top dose, haven’t had a single side effect so you won’t necessarily get any side effects. Sadly I’m also hungry. Think I’m bloody immune to the stuff!

Darkfloods · 04/10/2024 17:02

I don’t have a baby at
home but have been on Mounjaro for nearly four weeks.

I felt tired for the first few day like I was slightly under the weather. This past week I’ve felt like I have more energy than I’ve had for a long time - I really feel better than I did before I started so I think it’s worth a go.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 04/10/2024 17:07

I've felt like I have more energy while on it.

Pyjamatimenow · 04/10/2024 17:19

I have been on it since May. I’ve lost 2 1/2 stone. Now have a healthy bmi and I have more energy than previously. Not much in the way of side effects tbh

SilenceInside · 04/10/2024 17:39

That's kind of my point though, the side effects are unpredictable and can be mild, or they can be more unpleasant. So yes, the side effects could be something that impacts you looking after a baby. If you get some of the more difficult gastric side effects for example. No one can say that you won't get any side effects. It's a question of weighing up the possible risks with the possible benefits, for your personal situation.

Ellepff · 04/10/2024 18:17

I think you have to be done breastfeeding, so if that’s the case you should qualify!

I have a 2yo at home and a 4yo. I started with Friday injections so my partner could help with side effects. I slept hard the first 2 weekends and since then my energy is much better. I am also a bit queasy and eat less on weekends. So it’d be hard if I was single because my kids are still bad sleepers and need a fair amount of help day to day

Chxxxnaaaaa · 16/07/2025 13:16
