Medexpress communication?

My prescription is available to renew tomorrow for my 2nd pen. They've contacted my GP etc and I've read a few people have had issues with various things and have had their 2nd pen cancelled.

I want to make sure this won't happen before I part with £150, so I emailed them to ask if everything is good with my account/ the GP before I place my 2nd order.

They replied thanking me for the information I've supplied and once I place the order and the prescriber approves it I will get a dispatch email??

They didn't answer my question at all.

Are they usually like this?

Yeah that sounds like the usual process.
They don't need your GPs permission, its more a courtesy.

But that's not what I asked.

I have an issue that is on their 'wont prescribe list' but every other supplier allows it.

I'm worried that after contacting my GP they've been told I have this issue and so won't approve my script.

I asked them if there's any issues on my account that would prevent them allowing my next script before I send £150

If they won't allow it I'd rather just go somewhere else than wait for a refund

I think you’re getting yourself confused. They won’t “investigate” your account. After you place an order, they’ll check whether you’re eligible for a prescription. They don’t have a business need to do so before you place an order.

frankly I think you need to be an adult and be explicit in your declaration of your health condition if you want a response before you place an order. I’m really concerned that you have a condition on their “won’t supply list” but are just hoping they don’t notice.

Your question did not make it clear.

If you have a medical history which renders mounjaro dangerous to your health you need to declare it, not cross your fingers and hope for the best.

But it's not.

Every other supplier allows it. It's a gastric sleeve.

But I started with them and don't want to swap as I have a referal code so can get my pen cheaper.

It's perfectly safe for a sleeve according to other suppliers

There's only one way to find out, place an order and see what happens.

No-one on here knows more about your medical history or what Medexpress will do.

CatKitt · 01/10/2024 16:14

Instead of being vague with them, you could tell them you've had a gastric sleeve and want to know if they'll prescribe MJ to you regardless. That way they know exactly what they're looking for and what you're asking.

Tell them the reason you've written here - that other providers do prescribe (I don't know this personally, it's just what you've written) but if they don't, you'd rather go to others than wait for a refund because they rejected your order.

there’s many factors a physician may use to assess risk and carry out due diligence, they’re under no obligation to give you the medication just because others would. If that is their stance, you’re not going to change their mind.

if other suppliers will give it you regardless then perhaps it is easier to order from those suppliers directly.

Kiyua · 01/10/2024 16:28

Thw only way they'll know is if my GP has communicated that back to them
So I just want to know if that's happened before I try and order.
I probably won't need a 3rd pen

Why can’t you tell them yourself though? I am a bit confused about this.

I appreciate that your perspective is that they’re adding their own extra criteria over others which may lead to you being declined, but ultimately they’re just trying to be safe. It’s for your own benefit to stop you from getting poorly, they haven’t just plucked this from this air. If I had relevant health history, I would want any physician:

  1. to be aware of specifics
  2. to take it into consideration
  3. to assess my personal risk and benefit
  4. to literally and clearly state “this medication is perfectly safe for you to take with your gastric sleeve”.

Why are you trying to see if your GP tells them or not, instead of just making them aware upfront? Why are you trying to hide this for the sake of £40 off? There is more to life than money and referral codes.

This is why the prescribing guidance of weight loss injections is becoming more and more strict.

eeeeeeeee · 01/10/2024 16:40

Also, Mounjaro has never been tested on someone who has a gastric sleeve. Every single study involves people who have never had bariatric surgery ie people who have different circumstances to you:

https://medical.lilly.com/us/products/answers/can-mounjaro-tirzepatide-be-used-in-people-who-have-had-surgery-for-weight-loss-140286

That doesn’t mean it’s unsafe, but that it’s not tested. So it’s an unknown area and there could be complications. Therefore absolutely zero suppliers can say it is “perfectly safe” as no evidence exists to confirm it is perfectly safe.

It's been approved and dispatched
Yay!
