By the end of the week and you snacking again?

Only week one but first 3/4 days didn't think about food.

Jab due tomorrow and I've just eaten a pan au chocolate and am battling to stay away from fridge.

Does it build up as tou continue the weeks?

Assuming you're referring to Mounjaro, but I guess it's similar for Wegovy, the amount builds up in your system for the first day to 3 or 4 days and then starts to fall away. After each injection, the amount rises again but from a somewhat higher baseline, so when it falls again it doesn't go down as low as the first time. That process repeats each week. Then when you step up to a higher dose, it's starting from an even higher point and so doesn't fall as low as before.

I do sometimes feel like the effects are wearing off a bit on the last day or two before injecting, so it's something to be aware of and perhaps plan for. Not always the case for me though. I inject tomorrow morning and don't feel any different to the first few days of the week, but I am on 7.5mg and have been on Mounjaro for almost 12 weeks now.

Portalsalways · 26/09/2024 11:27

I have found that suppression is very different for different people.

and even one person experiences can differ week to week.

I find suppression does lessen towards the end of the week. But then one week it didn’t.

I have just done jab 4 for context.

flobbynomore · 26/09/2024 11:31

I was just thinking the exact same thing! I'm on day 6 of my first week of mounjaro, and have started wanting to snack again. Have just eaten 2 sweets from a bag left out by the coffee machine at work, and am eagerly anticipating lunch!
I am keen to see what happens when I inject my second dose tomorrow.

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/09/2024 11:31

It does a little but I'm trying to use the suppression days to train myself to make better choices when I'm not feeling as hungry. That way when I do start to reach for the snacks I'm picking boiled eggs, or cottage cheese on a low carb cracker.

Orangesandlemons77 · 26/09/2024 11:33

On this, I have heard of people using the extra dose to space their injections 5 days apart instead of 7 to help this if it wears off.

Singleandproud · 26/09/2024 11:34

Are you better timing the jabs differently next time. If you WFH but busy at the weekend you might want the suppression during the week. If you are more likely to snack at the weekend then time it to cover then.

Yes, I agree with this. I prefer to have the most effect at the weekend, so do my injection on a Friday morning. I can cope with the suppression wearing off a little on Wed or Thurs as I have more things to do to distract myself with on a working & school day.

WeAllHaveWings · 26/09/2024 18:12

You stay on each dose for at least 4 weeks as it keeps building up in your system and it allows your body to get used to the medication. This is how 4 weeks of 2.5mg build up in your system each week with the peaks being each injection.

After week 4, if you decide to stay on 2.5mg it will level off and have roughly the same concentration as week 4 is below.

By the end of the week and you snacking again?

Injecting every 5 days with 2.5mg will give you a much higher peak and possibly more side effects, unless you reduce each dose to <2.5mg.

I would not advise anyone doing that on their first pen, remember this is a serious prescription only medication for a reason.

Be sensible, get used to the medication as prescribed so if you hit any problems you can speak honestly to your provider for support. Once you know how your body is reacting, once you have researched properly and know exactly what you are doing with doses then perhaps try a minor tweak at a time. Reducing from 7 days to 5 days is a BIG tweak.

Orangesandlemons77 · 26/09/2024 19:11

Ok, but surely most go up to a 5mg pen after the first month anyway and that would be a much bigger tweak?

Going up to 5mg as per your prescription is fine, it is not a "tweak" but is how it has been tested and prescribed. You will have done 4 weeks of 2.5mg building up, knowing how you are responding and your body getting used to it.

I am all for taking smaller doses, smaller steps, 5th dose etc. That is off license too but no additional risk. Suggesting bumping up levels on the first pen, or any higher dose pen, before 4 weeks is completed, with no awareness of the impact, is madness and could cause someone harm which no one wants to do.

Orangesandlemons77 · 26/09/2024 20:50

OK, maybe best not do that then, sorry. I was just mentioning something I had seen someone else doing, which they found helpful. Possibly not on the first pen though, right.

KitsyWitsy · 29/09/2024 19:35

Do what you want! I will be seeing how it’s going nearer the time.

OhHeyOwlFace · 29/09/2024 22:32

It is something you have to work with. Hunger is normal and you will feel it

Ive never had any real suppression of appetite. And I've stayed on 2.5 in the main. I've lost almost 5 stone and am more or less at target now so honestly, don't think you need to have your appetite cut off completely as you don't

StormingNorman · 29/09/2024 22:38

The 2.5 has been absolute pants for me. No therapeutic effect and not even any side effects, except I’ve put on 4kg since switching from Wegovy.

Going up to 5mg next week and hoping I’ll start to feel something.

I was just advised to do this by my prescriber and I'm on my first pen, so your advice is clearly not that crazy!

OP - suggest you contact your prescriber and ask their advice. It's not an endurance contest and everyone reacts differently, but check with your prescriber to see if they advise taking your next jab early.

HiveMindEchoChamber · 30/09/2024 05:40

I've done 2.5 every 6 days, plan on doing similar for the first 2 doses of 5mg and then go back to 7 days again for all subsequent doses.

No side effects so far. Can't speak for 5mg though as I start this week

Portalsalways · 30/09/2024 07:10

. Sorry wrong MJ thread 😂

I don't think the OP is talking about normal hunger cues as you approach meal times, it sounds like she's had a return of the obsessing/food noise that makes it hard to stay away from mindless snacking.

It's great you've had lots of success on a low dose, but Mounjaro is precisely supposed to help with reducing that chatter in the head and if OP is finding it returning after a few days, she should not feel like she has to somehow 'cope' with that in order to be doing this properly.
