Thinking to get Mounjaro Injections 9M Postpartum

user242526 · 25/09/2024 19:25

Hello,

I'm currently 9M postpartum and finding it really hard to shift the weight. I'm considering Mounjaro injections to help with this.

Im 5ft2 and 66KG currently around a size 12.

Has anyone tried Mounjaro postpartum? What sort of dose would I need?

TIA

@user242526 You are not going to get it prescribed at your current BMI. It's only for those with a BMI of over 30, or 27 and over with a weight-related condition.

I dont think you can't take this if you're breastfeeding, if that applies to you.

I'd strongly recommend getting advice from a gp or pharmacist just in case.

Hey!

It doesn’t quite work like that, you need to be classed as Obese BMI to be eligible for the medication. Not sure what your BMI is, but I feel it’s Overweight at best, so nobody will prescribe it, unless you have comorbidities.

user242526 · 25/09/2024 19:44

Oh. I didn't know it worked like that. Would it be harmful to take it if you're not classed as 'obese'? There's so many places that are selling them online. I just can't seem to shift the post baby weight no matter how hard I try. It's my stomach and double chin that I hate. My face looks really puffy

Sorry forgot to mention that I'm not breastfeeding

No licensed pharmacist or doctor will prescribe to you.
If you buy from an unlicensed online source then who knows what you'll be injecting yourself with.
But it's your life, if you think it's worth the risk go for it, what could possibly go wrong.

SilenceInside · 25/09/2024 19:56

As the PP has said, the many places selling Mounjaro online that are regulated and above board will not prescribe it to you. Anywhere that does is likely illegally selling prescription meds and should be reported for doing so.

These injections act on how your body responds to eating and can be dangerous if misused. They also have the risk of side effects, mostly mild but some serious. You are not at all at risk of any weight related health issues being ever so slightly overweight in your post partum period. The risks of using weight loss injections is too much of a risk compared to no risk at all of not using them.

CiderJabs · 26/09/2024 15:59

Your bmi is 26.6 so you don't qualify for this drug. It's hard to say whether it would be harmful to you however there is a reason why it's not prescribed to anyone who is not obese. Don't take the risk. You've just had a baby. The weight will hopefully come off slowly as time goes by.

WeAllHaveWings · 26/09/2024 17:38

The media hype and "skinny jab" is unhelpful for what these serious medications actually are.

The injections are only prescribed to those who are in the obese category as the health benefits outweigh the risks of the medication. The injections can have unpleasant or even serious side effects. They do not make you lose weight, they suppress your appetite and the calorie deficit causes the weight loss the same as any calorie controlled diet.

If I was your BMI (my BMI started > 40) I would not be taking them!

Please don't be tempted to buy anything from anywhere other than a registered pharmacy, as you could cause yourself significant harm.

user242526 · 27/09/2024 10:49

Thanks everyone. I won't be buying them online as the cons outweigh the pros and there's too many risks attached (as you've all pointed out).

I just don't know how I can shift this baby weight. Surely at 9/10M postpartum I should've lost the weight by now?

Meh, I'm 8-plus years postpartum and haven't lost any of the baby weight! Put lots more on, unfortunately!

Your priority at the moment is your baby, and recovering from pregnancy and birth. Tiredness, stress, etc etc are all things that will scupper things.

I don't know what sort of things you've been doing, but the Fast 800 approach seems to work for lots of people. Increasing exercise if you can would help, walking maybe or working out at home.

Mounjaro has been around in the USA for a while but was only approved for use for weight loss in the UK a year ago. I think American celebrities have glamourised weight loss injections and some have likely been prescribed it without being obese as regulations might be different overseas!

This creates a weird dynamic of media hype of Mounjaro as a “get slim quick fix” vs the more stringent reality in the UK. As this medication is regulated in the UK, you can’t get a prescription (even privately) unless you meet the criteria which is BMI 30+ or BMI 27+ with certain health conditions eg: prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart problems.

At BMI 26.6, you’re not far off 27 if you do have any of those conditions. I suppose it’s something to keep in mind if you do continue to gain weight.

Otherwise I think it’s worth exploring if other products are suitable for you, for example Boots has sections on their website for Diet & Weight Management and Weight Loss. You can try over the counter things instead of jumping into prescription medication. Maybe look into a personal trainer too.
