Trying to get MJ with BMI of 28 + high cholesterol

Has anyone else been in this position? I can't find the answers I need anywhere.

I have just had a health screening at the GP, BMI came out at 28.7 and I have slightly high cholesterol (5.8) but GP says my overall heart risk is still low. I don't know if it is still classed as a co-morbidity?

I'm in the middle of submitting an application to MedExpress, I've got as far as the payment screen but it doesn't say what happens if they don't approve. Will I get a refund? How likely is the GP to say no?

Can anyone tell me how they managed to get MJ if they've been in a similar position?

From what you've put here I don't think you'll be approved- you need a BMI of over 30, or a co-morbidity which I don't think this would fall under. If it's not approved you'll be refunded.

Elevated cholesterol is definitely a co-morbidity. Also add any other symptoms associated with weight you might have such as sleep apnoea or back pain or joint pain. MJ is brilliant for inflammation and joint pain. (But do not add eating disorder or thyroid disorder as they will refuse you).

Thank you - I took the risk and did get approved, it only took an hour I was very surprised. Hoping that nothing can change between approval and dispensing.

I have an underactive thyroid, would I be refused for that @dcbgr or is it overactive they would be concerned about?

Neolara · 24/09/2024 19:32

Voy will prescribe for this.

I was approved with a BMI of 29.7 and cholesterol 6.1. Hopefully you’ll be set fair to go ahead, OP. Fast forward from end May & BMI is now 22.9! Looking forward to seeing what’s happening with the cholesterol now my diet and lifestyle has had a thorough overhaul. Good luck!

i wouldn't mention it. There was a very early, very small, very bad French study showing a link between MJ and thyroid cancer so out of an excess of caution some providers won't prescribe if you tick anything about thyroid. More recent better studies have shown no risk.

I have an underactive thyroid and it’s never been a problem with either of the companies I used (Juniper and Dr Franks)

Recent Danish data suggests people with autoimmune thyroiditis (hashimotos) do have a real risk of a specific type of thyroid cancer. We can still have Mounjaro but under GP / medical care as we need regular tests / monitoring.
