What is the strongest/most effective thing I can get if the injections or pens aren't a viable option?

Have you looked at the weight loss options explained on the various online pharmacies that offer the injections? They will have tablets available too, and there will be explanations of what they are and how effective they are. Big name providers include Boots, Asda, Superdrug, Lloyds, and so on.

You can get Rybelsus which is Ozempic in pill form

Babyboomtastic · 24/09/2024 13:01

Thanks. Looking they don't seem to be as effective, but I'll go and look up Rybelsus now.

Am I right in thinking that with the pens you don't see a needle, and it's just one a week? I struggle do badly with them, but if they actually don't hurt much and I can use a numbing cream first, I'm wondering whether I could manage?

I managed the covid jabs, but it was very difficult (lying down, music on, eyes shut, husband holding my hand).

There's no way I could do it myself, but my husband could potentially do it?

How bad are they compared to say, a covid jab or a blood test?

They're nothing at all like a covid jab and absolutely nothing like a blood test. The needle is very short, very fine and I have not felt a single one that I've done so far, eleven to date. I have to look all the time to make sure I'm actually making contact with my skin! Your husband could definitely do it if you looked away and I bet you wouldn't even know. It's like pressing the non-writing end of a biro against my skin.

raspberrymeringue · 24/09/2024 13:12

I have done it 3 times in my thigh . I did not feel it at all. The needle is so tiny. It's narrow and very short.

Peridot1 · 24/09/2024 13:14

Even needle phobics are surprised by how easy it is and how painless. It’s nothing at all like a vaccination or blood test injection. The needle is much much finer and smaller.

poppetandmog · 24/09/2024 13:18

I'm very needle phobic when it comes to having blood taken. It is nothing like this. I do feel mine but it is a very short sting as the needle goes in - literally less than a second - and then you can't feel a thing. You do see the needle but it's tiny. I never thought I would be able to do it myself but manage fine.

Babyboomtastic · 24/09/2024 13:21

Thank you. I might give it a go. I'm hoping my hatred of being fat outweighs my fear of needles.

I honestly cannot feel the needle. I thought I hadn't put it in tbh, it's so tiny

unsync · 24/09/2024 14:08

It's not a hypodermic needle. It's only 5mm long and you can't feel it.

Sadteacher · 24/09/2024 18:16

It sounds ridiculous but I kept poking myself in my tummy with a biro before ordering. When I felt I could do that without being faint I ordered the pen. Now I just pretend I am still poking myself with the biro. Mind over matter. Good luck x

Darlinghag · 24/09/2024 19:22

Another one who genuinely cant feel the needle here!

SevernWonders · 24/09/2024 19:23

Honestly it really is nothing.

I jab on a Sunday so if you are in no rush I am happy to film it and send it over so you can see.

LastTimeLosingIt · 24/09/2024 19:44

It is the smallest and thinnest needle I've ever seen. Doesn't hurt even a tiny bit. If you placed needle-based therapies I've had on a ranking of 1-10 with 10 being very painful, a bad blood test would be a four. A bad gas bloods (nasty one down your wrist) would be a six. Covid jab would be a 1. Mounjaro would be a 0.01, ten times less painful than a Covid jab.

That's very kind but I think it would make it harder for me. It's easier if I never see it at all. I wouldn't even be getting it out of the box.

There is a needle and you will see it. Could you get your partner to do it so you don’t have to look?

As others have said, it’s so thin, you can’t feel it.

BrotherUrgh · 24/09/2024 20:03

I get my husband to do it for me. Doesn’t hurt at all that way. I think I’d hesitate and make it worse if I did it myself.

raspberrymeringue · 24/09/2024 20:39

Also because of the way the pen is designed, you can't really see the needle as it goes into your skin or once it's in. It's a clever devise, full proof if you follow the instructions.
