MJ Christmas Menu Ideas

On the back of a discussion in the main thread, I thought it would be an idea to have a thread about Christmas food ideas (yes, I know it's only September!) as I know many are stressing about an MJ Christmas! 💉🎄🎄

I will offer up my beloved sprout puree😁 Cook your sprouts then purée with some crème fraiche (will probably use Greek yoghurt this year) and some nutmeg. Bloody lovely as a side for the main meal or with steak etc!

Wonderful thread idea!!!

Just coming to paste my ideas (so far).

Sides I have bookmarked already:

  • Cauliflower potato puree (50/50 ratio, same taste and texture but healthier)
  • Green beans with orange and walnut gremolata
  • Roasted sweet potatoes
  • Roasted butternut squash salad with tahini and pomegranate
  • Balsamic glazed roasted carrots
  • Roasted Brussels sprouts with balsamic and bacon
  • Garlicky kale and cashew salad

Mains would be variations on roast turkey / chicken / steaks / sticky ribs, etc.

Pudding ideas: decadent chocolate chia pudding with caramelized pecans (or black berry jam and dark chocolate shavings)

Appetisers: crudité platter. I'm thinking a mix of fresh veggies, lovely crackers (sourdough or seeded, there's all sorts of options), bread sticks, creamy hummus, some type of a delicious cottage cheese-based dip...fresh fruits.

Mine is going to be a good quality sirloin roast with lots of lovely veg (including sprouts) and probably roasted hassle back potatoes with a yet to be chosen seasoning. We are new to air frying this year and I haven't tried parsnips in it yet, will need to give them a go in advance to see how they work out!

Mainly avoiding too many carbs, fatty or anything creamy for me. I'll still do potato dauphinoise and yorkshire pudding for dh and ds and have a tiny bit.

A mini dessert of some sort.

Snacks will be mixed nuts mainly.

Really looking forward to not having a Christmas where there is too much focus on food. I love a beautiful piece of beef as the main attraction and we don't tend to buy sirloin roast during the year as too damn expensive.

I tend to do stuffed duck as the centrepiece. Would love goose but it's sooo much effort to cook!
