Is Mounjaro a treatment for weight loss?
Mounjaro is not yet available as a treatment for weight loss within the NHS.
In June 2024, NICE recommended Mounjaro for use as a treatment for overweight or obesity on the NHS when someone has a BMI of at least 35kg/m2, and they have additional medical conditions that are related to obesity. NICE will review feedback on the draft decision before they publish their final guidelines.
Under the draft guidelines, a lower BMI would apply to people for people from Black African, African-Caribbean, Asian, South Asian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern backgrounds, who have additional medical conditions that are related to obesity.
The draft guidelines suggest that a Mounjaro prescription for weight loss on the NHS could be stopped if someone’s weight loss is less 5% after six months. There would be no time limit for how long someone could take this medication, and – unlike the weight loss drugs Wegovy and Saxenda – there is no stipulation that it would have to be delivered in specialist weight management services.

What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is a type of medication you might need to take if you have type 2 dia

I have not seen it before, just was talking to my GP about this today and they mentioned it could be available, perhaps soon.
