Can Mounjaro help with sugar addiction?

I’ve got a really bad addiction to sugar. My meals are really balanced but I can’t help busy constantly snack on sugar (chocolate and biscuits specifically) constantly post lunch. I basically don’t get through the afternoon without sugar. My diet would be good if I could just cut down my sugar intake.

i head on a radio 4 program about sugar addiction, one of the speakers said that it could be used as a like a menthodrone type medication for sugar addiction.

has anyone taking mounjaro found that it’s helped with sugar addiction? It’s starting to effect me mentally and physically but I just can’t get off the stuff!

Hi,

Honestly I was addicted to sugar. It's the strangest feeling now having no thoughts about it or cravings for it. Especially chocolate.

Since starting mounjaro, some things taste overly sweet and I don't like them it's crazy.

I have a discount code for med express if you want to get £40 off your first pen. It has improved my life so much!

Good luck!

God yes helps big time. I’ve had a big bar of choccie in the fridge for a few weeks now, have the odd square with a coffee now and again; unheard of pre mounjaro I’d have scoffed the lot well before now.

I prefer fruit to sweets now.

Yes. I had an awful sweet tooth before starting MJ. Would eat sweets and chocolate multiple times a day.

I’m on my 5th week of Mounjaro and it really does change things. I don’t snack between meals, don’t want dessert after a meal. It sounds ridiculous but it really feels like someone has flicked a magic switch.

My diet isn’t wonderful yet. I’m a fussy eater, who doesn’t eat enough veg, and I’m a busy working mum who has spent years relying on convenient carby snacks. But it is getting better. I’m losing weight, eating something that is far closer to a healthy diet than I used to, and generally starting to feel like I might be able to regain control.

I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

Actually I’d go as far as to say that chocolate doesn’t taste as good on MJ. I’ve had a couple of occasions of thinking “oooh I really fancy…” but when I have a bit, it is unsatisfying and I stop after a small amount.

Having something and discovering that it isn’t as enjoyable as you expected really helps to reduce the feelings of wanting it next time too.

I used to drink a lot of diet fizzy drinks but don’t fancy them anymore either.

As a (hopefully) recovering sugar addict I have to say that it was a blessing for me. I am on a 6th dose of Mounjaro and it works wonders. I barely had anything sweet in those 6 weeks. Simply don't fancy it. Before I started mounjaro, I had to have something sweet every single day. I must add that I am still on the lowest dose because it works. I have good suppression and weight keeps on going down. 8,5 kg down so far😎

I was the same. On the whole my diet was generally good, until after lunch when the sugar addiction would start. I've not had any sugar cravings and I'll happily eat a piece of fruit in the afternoon rather ans feel satisfied rather than chocolate and sweets.

Just echoing what all the PP have said. There is actually some research going on with alcoholics and drug users as it is believed that GLP1s can treat addiction on a wider scale.

Definitely. I could do so much damage during that mid afternoon lull, especially when stressed. I also use sugar to self soothe, bit like a smoker might have a cigarette I guess. Early days for me, but it's made a huge difference, and given me a chance to look inwards and analyse what I'm doing.

As others have said, yes, I have a raging sweet tooth (sugar addiction?) and that has also dampened down over the past 6 weeks. Like others, I had the urge to have something sweet every day and now I don't. I still have pulls to eat something sweet, but it's generally something small and not carby or chocolatey - so, rather than piling through a massive slab of cake, I have a few jelly sweets occasionally. I also like the chocolate and vanilla protein puddings and yoghurts - but again, I can stop at one now rather than eating loads, there isn't that bloodlust towards needing to eat sugar.
