Mounjaro Kwikpen issues

I've finally bitten the bullet and bought my first Mounjaro Kwikpen 2.5mg. I've struggled to get the pen to work. I'm following the instructions to the letter, and I'm a nurse so I'm well used to using such devices.

However, I'm having real difficulty with this. Once I've primed it and dialled the twist at the end to the appropriate dose, the knob at the end depresses only a little, then stops. The number in the dosage window should return to 0, but it doesn't. I've tried changing the needle but no difference.

Anyone else experienced this, and what did you do? I've contacted Superdrug ( where I bought it) but not holding my breath for a reply.

Really pissed off as it's bloody expensive, and I'm wary of buying it again if the same could happen.

Changing the needle is the common solution, but if you have already done that and priming work (which checks the needle is ok) it sounds like a mechanical issue with the pen.

I would probably try dialing back down to 0, changing needle again, prime and give it another go.

Superdrug should replace for you. If they replace and don't want the faulty pen back you could extract with a syringe and still use it.

Is it just too hard to push all the way down to 0? I know sometimes they are a little stiff but it’s unusual if priming was ok

Thanks.

I've tried re-priming, but no joy. I'm hoping I hear back from Superdrug and they agree to replace it, but if not I'll try extraction with an insulin syringe.

Yes...it's thoroughly jammed.

Oh how annoying!! I second the suggestion above - get yourself 1 ml insulin syringes, each dose you need to inject is 0.6 ml so super easy and faff-free to do with them. Hopefully Superdrug sorts it out for you though!

Hello, quick question - is this the right type of syringe for accessing the extra dose? Assume I need to take to the 60 marker?

Thanks

This is much better

Finer, shorter and from a pharmacy supplier so you know fit for human use and sterile. Amazon ones are marked as laboratory supplies so you can't be sure of what you are getting.

You can also access using the hard twist method and just using a pen needle as usual. I have done that successfully with my last two pens. Also means you are not injecting with a slightly blunt needle (it will be blunted going through the seal)

Hello, can I ask are you buying the extra pen needle and where from ? You surely can't reuse any of the original 4 needles?
Thank you !

Thank you !

I bought my extra pen needles from my provider, but they are a universal fit and you can get them in lots of places, I have read some people took their pens into pharmacies and got some too.

The providers I have used so far usually send 6-7 needles per pen usually either 6mm or 4mm, These are the ones I got from my provider as I wanted to try the 4mm and make sure I had enough spare.

I have also seen people link to a brand called Carepoint.
