Am considering going down the ozempic type route to get 20kilos off to get to a healthy weight .
I've tried the diet way with some success but this I'm thinking would give me the support that my post menopausal metabolism needs .

My question is what are my chances of getting it on the NHS or is private funding the only way ?
Currently got BMI of 35 down from 41 a year ago .

I’ve wondered this too OP as it seems from all these threads that everyone is paying for it privately. I would like to try it too but can’t afford it at present.

From what I can tell, the chances are very slim and really it's only possible if you have type 2 diabetes. For weight loss alone I think nearly all GPs can't prescribe it, and those that do normally require you to have gone through at least two tiers of other weight loss strategies that they prescribe. A process that can take a couple of years to satisfy.

You need to have tried 3 treatments for T2 first, even then it's a slim chance.

Everything I have seen here and on facebook is saying only those with very extreme BMIs or other health related issues such as diabetes are getting injectables on the NHS, I haven't seen anyone getting it "just" for weight loss.

I assume you have looked at and compared Ozempic and the newer more effective Mounjaro?

I would say impossible to get it prescribed on NHS at the moment for weight loss alone.

However I am really hoping that this is going to save me money in the long run.

When I am in the mood I can spend a ridiculous amount of money on food and alcohol. Hopefully this is going to end.

I have thousands of pounds worth of clothes that are too small. Being able to fit back into these clothes will save me a fortune as it will be like getting a whole new wardrobe.

At least that’s what I am telling myself.

What's the difference between the 2 drugs ?

There is lots online about the differences, most of the prescribers have similar information on their sites. Here's one picked at random.
