Splitting Mounjaro Dose

Hi All,

Has anyone split a 10mg pen in to smaller doses to wean off or use as maintenance?

Im down to my last 7ib to lose and am seriously worried about just stopping MJ and piling it all back on but also cannot justify spending £230 on a 2.5mg pen when its the same price to get a 10mg one and just split it to last longer!

I know how to count the clicks and have got spare needles & alcohol wipes for the pen but just wondering if anyone else has successfully done this?

I know most advise is to only use for 30 days from opening but then some say it is fine as long as kept in the fridge and used by the ‘use by date’ 🤷🏼‍♀️

My psychiatrist was telling me that she microdoses. She buys a big dose and uses it in small portions because it works out cheaper. Not sure why she told me all this because I have no interest in it myself, but I thought it might make you feel better because actual qualified doctors are doing it if she is anything to go by.

I wound it to 1 yesterday but should have counted 30 clicks...to give myself a half dose. Now I dont know how to give myself a half dose.

@Froggy79 just wind it from 0 and count the clicks as you turn it until you've counted 30 clicks. If you go too far or lose count, then wind it back down to 0 and try again.

I do, I bought a 10mg pen but only take 7.5 because

1. I live overseas and have to fly back to pick it up.
2. It's pretty expensive, especially with the additional flight to the UK.

I've done this for months, works perfectly fine, I have no side effects ...I don't really need to lose anymore weight... maybe a few pounds.

So far I've only taken the dosages according to the instructions, but definitely find it starts to wear off by the end of the week. I've read about people doing half a dose, 30 clicks, every four days. If I were to do this, does the pen still lock after four doses, with half the liquid still in?

Which you shouldn’t do! Any medication left should be disposed of after 30 days as it’s starts to loose it efficacy!

Absolutely do not do this! It has been throughly researched and trialed to get the safest dosage! I find on day 6 I’m slightly hungrier but I just have extra protein! No one knows what the effects of taking more than the tecommyfose are long term! Would you take more than the recommended dose of paracetamol?

I was told by my doctor to stop taking it for a week due to other health issues but to carry on with the pen as usual till the end so I know it’s fine for 35 days

@olympicsrock@Friedslicei have been thinking of taking a higher dose pen and microdosing too. I am worried about the seal breaking or being damaged and then spoilingbthe MJ due to repeated jabbing?
at the moment i do 1.25 every 4 days on a 2.5mg pen + the 5th dose. So that is 10 jabs instead of 4 (or 5 with the 5th dose). Ive done this for two months and had no issues.
i wanted to order a 5mg pen and carry on but im not sure if the seal can take 20 jabs! I know if the liquid is cloudy or a different colour that it would means it is not usable anymore

@spoonbillstretfordthis is what i do - no the pen does not block after 4 jabs. If you split your dose in half you will be able to take 8 doses in the usual way. For the 5th dose (or if you split it it becomes two doses) you have to ise the needle to extract the liquid.

@Notmy1stRodeoso how many jabs in 8 weeks? Are you worried about the seal being damaged?

It doesn’t lose its efficacy. The issue is bacterial contamination. Every time a needle pierces the seal you risk introducing bacteria. So if you use a 10mg pen for 2.5mg doses you pierce the seal 16 times instead of 4, which is a big increase in risk. Be scrupulous with wiping the seal and avoiding touching the sterile needle. Keep it in the fridge.
You aren’t introducing air and unopened pens last months/years.
But you have significantly increased the risk of introducing contamination. Anyone doing this needs to understand the risk and make their own decision. No one on here can tell you it will be ok.
