hello everyone, can i ask did anyone get their injections from their GP?
i have an appointment with my GP on monday and would love some advice before hand.
Im disabled and can’t get around much plus i’m pre diabetic, high blood pressure, have PCOS and going through the menopause. i gained about 8 stone + when i became disabled and with being on so many meds including morphine etc the weight just kept piling on. over the years the gp keeps saying oh don’t worry it can’t be helped. but i’m at the stage now i feel like i will be just a sitting heart attack waiting to happen.
About 8/9 months ago i made my yearly moan to the doctors about my increasing weight gain and was told they could put me in orastat if i could prove i could loose weight on my own. i refused the tablets as i had them about 10 years ago and omg did i live in my loo 🥴. even though i move around my home i didn’t want to be in that position again when i can’t get to the loo in 60 seconds flat!
So to anyone who has received these injections from your doctor did you have to prove previous weight loss or anything else before they helped and put you in the injections.
many thanks xxx

No, everyone I know has had to pay for them from an online pharmacy.

The NHS only extremely rarely prescribe them, and only then for morbidly obese people with diabetes and other health conditions.

I don't know anyone who had them on the NHS. I've found cloud pharmacy very good and reasonably priced.

In most areas the GPs follow prescribing advice set by the local CCG which is usually "You can prescribe this for XXXX condition if the patient has XXXX symptoms/tests and has tried XXXX first". Currently most will only give it to overweight diabetics who are not adequately controlled on the first line tablets which is why most of us have to buy it even if, technically, we fit the criteria the manufacturers advise for it.
Some GPs follow the guidance more rigidly than others though so it is always worth asking

You can get Wegovy ozempic and mounjaro on the NhS but only from a specialist obesity clinic
