Voy's predicted weight loss

FattyMcNugget · 26/08/2024 11:31

I need to lose 5st which is not coming off even though I'm being really sensible and stopped taking the medication that caused me to put it on months ago (stopped gaining when it stopped).

I've been through the form filling on Voy and it says that my predicted weight loss in six months is 1st 9lbs. 5st would put me back bang in the middle of a healthy BMI and back at the weight I was pre cancer treatment.

I'm not sure I'd bother with it for 1st 9lbs, I'll just keep slogging it out on mfp.

Can anyone advise if Voy always underestimate weight loss (because of their money back scheme if it doesn't work).

I'd say that's an exceptionally cautious estimate. If they have a money back guarantee than that is probably why!

I'm on my first month, and I'm with Voy. I will 100% be switching to another provider next month as I'm not making any use out of their coaching and their prices are too high to justify if you aren't using that service. I'm not surprised they'd be worried if they had to reimburse them.

(Also I don't think in stone but I've lost 4.5 kilos in the last two weeks. That's obviously not going to keep going at that rate, but also I'd be extremely surprised if I only lost a few more kilos over the next 5.5 months!)

FattyMcNugget · 26/08/2024 12:20

Thank you @cakewench, it does seem very cautious from what I've read on here. I googled 'are Voy's weight loss estimates cautious' and variations of the same but didn't get anything useful.

I suspect it's just to avoid giving refunds.

In reality on Mounjaro you will lose far more than their estimate, many on these threads are.

Do you keep a record of what you're eating? I'm losing 1 kg max per week and would love to lose more!

You won’t lose 5 stone but I suspect you will lose 3.5 stone

What is that based on?

I don't know why they're predicting such a low weight loss - I wonder whether they under-estimate so they don't get complaints?

l3tsdanc3 · 26/08/2024 14:05

I did think the same but have gone for it anyway. I've lost half a stone in 9 days, and judging by what I'm seeing on here, I agree that they're very cautious!

Was your prediction low @l3tsdanc3 ?

It does seem conservative, like a pp I would say about 3.5-4 stone seems sensible in 6 months.

However what have you got to lose? You say you aren't losing anything doing what you are now. Why not give it a go? Have you read any of the big long threads? They're amazing for info and advice 🤩 good luck op 😀

Thanks a lot @NewLifter, I am wary of it as a(nother) drug tbh.

I've read a lot, clearly the weight loss is great but I'm really wary of getting stuck on it. I've read lots of reports from the US that document an expectation for people to stay on it fairly long term.

I'm also very very cautious about side effects after dealing with chemotherapy, the side effects were traumatic. Mentally I really couldn't deal with too much in the way of side effects (in my head I imagine the catastrophe scenario).

It it helps, I've had entirely the opposite side effects to what is usually reported. Instead of heightened anxiety, I've had a quietening down of my brain which has been miraculous. I was on the verge of going to my GP for anti anxiety medications (I'm in my 40s, some of this will be menopausal, but a lot is just because I have a lot of issues regarding elderly parents, etc, and this summer has been a bit of a breaking point for me) when I happened to have decided to start this because of my high cholesterol/ BP/ blood sugars which came back in testing earlier this year (another cause of anxiety!)

I'm afraid of going off of it, but not because of the weight. It's been an incredibly positive experience for me, mentally.

I'm not saying you will experience this, but I'm saying you won't know how you'll react until you try it.

How many weeks have you been on it? Are you still on 2.5? Because I know a lot of people don't react to that level.

I had an immediate reaction, full suppression of hunger which meant my first week was spent trying to work out making sure I ate properly. I ate two eggs a day every day (I've read about making sure we keep on top of protein while on this), hummus with a few flat pretzel chips, ham on a wholemeal roll with butter, some kind of vegetables every day, grilled lean meats. I've made sure to take vitamin supplements every day. I've been eating as if I'm on a diet as usual, just without the constant hunger pangs.

I'm finishing my second week (jab day is mid day Weds, so a bit less than 2 days from now) and I'm starting to feel hungry again sometimes.

Ineffable23 · 26/08/2024 17:22

Is 1st 9lb 10% of your bodyweight OP? It looks like they may predict that everyone will lose 10% of their bodyweight in 6 months to me. They also only refund proportionally! So 8% loss= 20% refund.

Ahhh ok, I understand. I definitely had planned at the outset to only use it for a month or two to kick off my weightloss and try and break bad habits.

Two months in I am absolutely loving life. My anxiety has some how switched off and I absolutely love not constantly obsessing about food.

I honestly feel amazing and at the moment, don't want to ever stop MJ (I am sure I will change my mind on that eventually!).

My main issues have been constipation, occasional severe diarrhea (3 times in 2 months) and I've been really tired this week (not sure if MJ is to blame).

But I am over the moon with my weightloss (23lbs in 8weeks) which is far more than I anticipated.

I recommend having a read through of some of the 'long' threads, we are up to 20 now. I spent a few days reading through a few of them before deciding to bite the bullet

I would advise using a provider that has a more personal touch, such as Oushk, as I think they will support you better should you experience side effects. I've been using Zava so far and they're fine but there's no personal approach. Oushk are well known for being very responsive and personal.

AirBandUseless · 26/08/2024 23:05

Well I've lost 4 and a half stone in 5 months and am almost at target. Never gone above the 2.5 dose either

So id say it's a somewhat cautious estimate there!

Mounjaroattheend · 27/08/2024 07:15

Ive been on Mounjaro since the beginning of April and I’ve lost 12kg, so just shy of 2 stone.

I think it’s unrealistic to expect huge losses very quickly - and certainly those losses won’t be sustained when you see people losing a stone in under a month etc. It will be regained very quickly once stopped.

With large, quick losses you’ll see other undesirable effects such as loose skin and stretch marks.

I see MJ as a tool to change your life style, get used to being comfortable feeling hunger, learning what a sufficient portion of food is etc. Mine has been a long and slow loss, but the significant financial outlay has been worth it for me, to learn those new habits over a number of months.
It’s not a quick fix, lose a ton of weight and come off because that will just reverse very quickly (you only have to read the stories of regained weight once stopped to understand this is not a magic bullet)

If you look at it as a tool to change your lifestyle and eating habits rather than something that will shed weight very quickly, you’ll see the long term benefit and for that, it is very much worth it.

Menora · 27/08/2024 09:28

It’s unrealistic to expect to lose 5st in 6 months and many reasons why that isn’t really something to aspire to and it would be irresponsible of Voy to advertise that. Fast weight loss will also be you losing your muscle mass. Rapid weight loss can result in gallstones and loose skin. When you get closer to your goal - about 1st away, weight loss just naturally becomes more challenging and slow. It can take quite some time to get the last bit of weight off. Healthy, gradual weight loss doesn’t see you losing your very valuable muscle mass at the same time and is more sustainable long term.

FattyMcNugget · 27/08/2024 13:05

I don't think I stated that my aim was 5st in 6 months anywhere.

My question was in relation to Voy's predicted weight loss and how realistic that was based on experiences.

OP posts:
Mounjaroattheend · 27/08/2024 13:11

I think those with a lot to lose tend to lose pretty quickly. I had around 2.5-3 stone to lose and that’s probably why mine has been a bit slower.

I think Voy is realistic in their projection, mine has been 5 months at 2 stone.

I guess it’s like any medication, some people respond very well to it, some not so well.

If I were you, I’d give it a try - you can always stop if it doesn’t agree with you and it may give you the kick start to healthier eating habits, like it has me. I will stop in 4 weeks and then the real test will start of if I can keep this new way of eating up
