I'm 5ft 6 and weigh 14 stone. Ideally would like to lose about 3 stone. Mounjaro is in the fridge and going to start on Friday. I've been piling on the pounds since menopause and nothing will shift them. Not even fasting, which was really successful a few years ago. This really is my last resort. Would love to hear success stories of people in a similar situation as me...

I started in May at 15 st 5 aged 60 & 5'6".

Now 11 st 3lb and feeling fab. The only side effect was a bit of constipation between 5/7.5 mg ..otherwise nothing x

I'm 65. Have been overweight/obese since my early 40s.
Started in mid May at 14st 12 and now 12st 2lbs, the lowest I've been since my 30s despite the myriad of diets over the last 20 years.
I'm on 10mg now and sticking there for now. Weight loss has been slow and steady (apart from a few stalls) but, at my age I think that's OK. I'm really focusing on exercise and healthy eating. Side effects have been fairly minimal.
BMI is now 27.8 which is supposed to be OK for when you're older but I have a very flat bum and still a quite substantial belly so I'm carrying on. Not sure when I will move into maintenance.

I started MJ at the end of September. I took my 3rd injection last Sunday. I’m 69 and have been battling with my weight since an early menopause. I constantly lose a few pounds and then they go back on (like everyone else on here). I’m also hypothyroid. I’m 5 foot 6 and my SW was 12 stone 10 and 3/4 (recent high was 13 stone 5 pounds). I aim to get down to 10 and a half stone. When I was younger I was a stone less than that, but I’d be delighted with 10 and a half stone now.

I try to eat complex carbs and protein at every meal. I’m finding as I don’t feel hungry between meals getting enough protein is a challenge so I may buy some flavourless protein to boost my morning Greek yogurt or soups. I also love a glass or two of wine. Don’t fancy it after injecting for about four days and then - I do…….I’m hoping as titration builds up I’ll have suppression all week. Maybe someone else could tell me what they find?

I have a personal trainer (have had for two years). We focus on strength training. Someone mentioned a flat bottom - working with a pt will really help you develop your core strength and glutes and improve that. I also go to the gym two to three times a week. My pt emphases the importance of rest days - fine by me. On those days I walk a lot!

I think I’m going to be a slow loser as I’ve lost two pounds since starting, but I’ve booked a consultation with a GP to ask for a review of my thyroid issues and if that’s not forthcoming I may see a private endocrinologist.

Been on MJ since late June. Sw 14.8. CW 12.6. Hoping to get to 11.7. On 5 mg and moving up to 7.5 mg next month. Finding suppression has lessened recently. Hoping the 7.5 will make life a bit easier.
Loving fitting into clothes that have been lurking in the wardrobe for years. 😂
I’m 71.

I'm 62 and I'm going to start taking it as soon as I've had my hip replacement in 3 weeks time.
My weight is really impacting my joints and I don't want to end up with knee replacements as well.
I need to lose weight urgently so I'll be following this thread with interest.

Ive had one knee and one hip replaced and breast cancer in the last few years. Dropping 2 stone has helped my joints immensely.

Fantastic. This is what I'm hoping thanks.

Could any one tell me What does maintenance entail ? I'm interested as I'm nearly 4 months into my monjauro and have lost 2st ..very pleased...I'm on 7.5mg still via med express who say they also do maintenance treatments .
Sw 13.9 cw 11.9 .

FarriersGirl · 19/10/2024 07:45

@HazelJoker Most of the online pharmacies don't really specify what maintenance is but just say they will continue to prescribe once you reach a healthy BMI. The main exception looks to be Oushk who do seem to have done some work with Eli Lilley and have 3 defined maintenance plans on their website. I would suggest you have a look for more details. I moved from MedExpress to Oushk a couple of months ago and have had a one to one video consultation with their lead prescriber and am about to start their titrate plan which means I will start lowering the dose. After that I will see how it goes....

Thank you to everyone for your replys. Lots of very interesting tips.
Supposed to be starting today but I've been putting it off. I have a very real needle phobia but have read that it's virtually painless. I'm also really overthinking the possible side effects. I have IBS so hoping that doesn't worsen!
I think I will struggle with the weight training part but realise it is necessary if I don't want to regain all the weight once I stop Mounjaro.

Another over 60 here. Started at the beginning of September at 14 stone 12 lbs, now down 18 lbs. Still on 2.5 mg as it is enough. Really don't worry about the needle. The first time I did it I thought I hadn't actually injected myself because I couldn't feel anything!

QueenOfHiraeth · 19/10/2024 09:06

...and yet another over 60 here. I started in May and am almost 3stone down. It has been slow and steady though, unlike some of the younger users who lose a lot quickly but I am post-menopausal and less active.
Like others I have increased protein, increased the amount of fluids I drink and started exercising (very gently!) with weights. I recommend logging food on Nutracheck, not just to figure out your calories, but also to see what protein you are getting and, after years of dieting and restricting food, mine was very low indeed. Make sure you eat enough and use the jab as a tool to learn to eat healthily, do NOT just rely on it suppressing your appetite.
I am almost down to my pre-Covid weight now but still have several stone to go although I have not decided on a goal weight as I think the so-called "healthy|" weight range is probably lower than I want to be to look and feel my best

weaseleyes · 19/10/2024 12:21

Also over 60 - nearly 61. It's worked well for me, despite a hideous history of long phases of over weight and dieting.

@Gettingbysomehow I developed a lot of hip and sciatic pain which turned out to be linked to arthritis around an old disc injury in my spine. Everything got worse after sitting for two years when wfh in the pandemic. It's been a real struggle to re-mobilise, and I've known that losing weight would obviously help. MJ eased the pain almost from the outset, though, even before I lost any weight, as it reduces inflammation. It's made it so much easier to exercise and walk around a bit faster.

HazelJoker · 19/10/2024 15:34

@FarriersGirl thank you for your reply .I shall definitely look at the Other provider you mention good luck with your journey
