Weight loss injections through private healthcare

I have a GP appointment tomorrow (NHS) peri menopause related. I have a feeling they are going to suggest HRT. I'm reluctant because of potentially putting on weight, when I've recently made a decision to try weight loss injections.

I plan to ask the GPs advice about this, and how it could interfere with any medication.

But I just remembered I have private healthcare through work - BUPA I think. I don't know why I haven't used it before.

Does anyone have any experience of injections through private healthcare? Or is this strictly for diabetics?

I'm excited to get started, but also don't really know where to start. I don't have much support because I'm just getting 'but you don't need to, I love you how you are' from DH. Which on the one hand is nice, but on the other is pissing me off as I'm not doing it for him!!

I’m on Bupa too - unfortunately even with my private GP prescribing it, providing a supporting letter including blood work showing I am at high risk of developing diabetes, they refused to cover my Ozempic. They said that it’s only for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes and even then I’d have to show I’d tried other diabetes management medications. It’s off-label for weightloss so they would cover consultations with nutritionists, acupuncture etc. for weightloss but not Ozempic for this purpose. I ended up paying out of pocket.

@Ifyouinsistthen thank you, I thought that may well be the case.
Willing to pay anyway. I was hoping maybe I could get advice/consultations through BUPA even if I have to pay separately for the drug.

Really excited to get started :)

@WideFootWelly
Slightly off topic as I've no experience of private health care but during your conversation with GP re HRT, it's worth bearing in mind that MJ can help with menopausal symptoms. Obviously don't know what you're experiencing but my hot flushes stopped completely with a day or two of starting and haven't recurred in the 3 months since. I'm not on HRT for other reasons, but with MJ I don't feel I would need any other medication to help with the menopause. Maybe start MJ first and then reassess if you think you also need HRT or want to wait until you've achieved your weight loss goals?
