Mounjaro side effecte

Hi, I’ve been on MJ for 5 months now and had side effects for 4 of them. The day I inject I’m fine, but the next day I get the sulphur burps followed by 4-5 nights of horrific diarrhoea. I get one or two normal nights and then back to being ill. So far I’ve been losing loads of weight so I decided it was worth it, but now I’m regularly getting dizzy when I stand up, my stomach is uncomfortable all the time, and I haven’t lost weight in weeks. I’ve messaged my doctor who said it’s a known side effect so there’s nothing they can do.
has anyone found anything that actually helps with the diarrhoea? I’ll keep the burps, but the stomach issues are awful and constant. I’ve noticed that dairy is a definite trigger, so I’ve cut that completely. I’m living on fish, chicken, vegetables and rice so don’t see how that can be triggering anything, is it just something I have to accept if I want to continue with the drug?

What dose are you on?
Could you drop down a dose to help ease the side effects?

BondiTree · 07/08/2024 13:46

@Snozzlemaid i started getting side effects at 5 so stayed on that for two months. I’m now on 10 and on that for my second month too. I get hungry by the end of the week, but I think that’s because I’m not keeping anything in my stomach for more than a couple of hours?

You could try changing your injection site from stomach to thigh?
it does sound as though lowering your dose may help. It’s normal to feel hunger, I get hungry daily but find I’m full a lot quicker when eating meals so eat a lot less.

Tirzepatide · 07/08/2024 15:18

I’ve just started getting these symptoms this week - 4 days and counting so far. Went up to 4.6 mg from 4.2 mg - I am dropping back down next week.

I would stop taking it now that you’re getting these additional symptoms too, for a couple of weeks, and then start back on 2.5 mg. Really rubbish that you’re getting no advice from the doctor!

BondiTree · 07/08/2024 16:46

@Time4changeagain i always inject in the thigh because I heard stomach can give more side effects

This sounds really dangerous to me, you're probably dehydrated and possibly low blood sugars. Could also be malnourished at this point due to such a restricted diet.

You also say you've not lost any weight in months despite all of this.

Honestly? I would stop. Look after your health, nourish your body.

User364837 · 08/08/2024 09:08

It doesn’t sound good. MJ seems to be a lot about finding the right dose that your body can tolerate. I don’t think you can carry on like this, so I would try dropping dose to see if your body tolerates it better or stop completely

BondiTree · 08/08/2024 13:08

@NewLifter ive lost loads of weight, that’s why I’m sticking with it. I just haven’t lost in the last few weeks. I’ve started vitamins just in case I’m not absorbing them. I’ve only got another stone to go, I really wanted to keep going, apart from the side effects it’s great

I'll swap to the thigh too this week - I've only done stomach so far.

Just used the https://glp1plotter.com/ website to help me decide what to do for tomorrow's WI - the answer is go back to 2.5 mg and see how that goes...

I've 'lost' 5.8 lbs in 6 days this week due to the diarrhoea/over suppression of appetite - not good!

What have you decided to do @BondiTree ?

Mounjaro side effecte
Tirzepatide · 08/08/2024 14:01

I meant dose/injection not WI - can't edit post again though!

User364837 · 08/08/2024 17:53

@Tirzepatide can you explain a bit more how you used that chart/the website to help you make that decision? I don’t quite get it

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 08/08/2024 18:00

Peppermint oil capsules for the burping/ bloating.
Ginger capsules or tea for the sickness feeling.
Magnesium tablets and electrolytes are also recommended.
Drink as much water as you can.
You still have to alter your diet. Seems like you have.
Chicken/ fish/ eggs .Plenty of fruit and vegetables.
Imodium for the diahorrea.
My daughter gets constipated.
I usually suffer IBS and have one or the other. But I've found I'm going more normal .
If you're not type 2 remember it will lower your blood sugar so you might get light headed and a tad dizzy .
Inject at night time then you can lay in bed and hopefully sleep.

@User364837 - I added in all my doses to date and then played about with the last one so that it looked similar to what it looked between the 3.2 mg and the 4.2 mg (as now I think about it my appetite was too low on 4.2 mg - I definitely shouldn't have ploughed ahead with the 4.6 mg when I got back off holiday. I was in two minds whether to do 4.2 mg again or go up the the planned 4.6 mg right up until when I injected. Now I know...)

Anyway - I put in the start date and 9 weeks to graph and then added the 2.5 mg dose for weeks 1-4 then clicked 'add another compound' for all the other weeks: week 5-week 5 and 3.2 mg, then weeks 6-7 and 4.2 mg, week 8- week8 as 4.6 mg, and finally played around with week 9 to week 9 (tomorrow's dose) until the profile looked about right to take me back to what I am guessing is the right dose for me now.

The website didn't added the doses on the graph - I did that simply by using snipping tool, pasting it to power point, adding them in, use snipping tool again for another image and then save as jpeg.

Your approach to using Mounjaro seems disordered to me.

If you have troubling side effects at 5mg you should drop the dose not increase to 10mg.

Your goal is not to stop feeling hungry. It's to have a hunger three times a day which is sated by eating healthy foods totalling c1,200 calories a day.

Continuing with having days and days of diarrhoea each week is not good for you in terms of calorie intake, nutrients, fluids and bowel health. You seem more concerned with losing weight than being healthy. But if your weight loss journey doesn't help re educate you about food and how to eat well you will be more likely to regain the weight once you stop the Mounjaro.

I would drop back to 5mg or even lower until the diarrhoea stops and you can start putting good habits in place.

BondiTree · 09/08/2024 16:38

@Choux i don’t think I’m being unreasonable. My eating habits have completely changed, I’ve never eaten so healthy in my life. I’ve cut all sugar including fizzy drinks, I haven’t touched alcohol since I started (not that I was a big drinker anyway, more of a social one). I’ve reduced carbs, increased protein and I’m exercising daily. I am definitely prioritising losing weight, I don’t have a tonne of spare income so this is a big investment for me

@PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance thanks for the advice. I’m not diabetic but was living on sugar before so your idea about blood sugar makes sense. Time for Imodium I think!
