Help please - Mounjaro day 2 - dreadful side effects?

Hello there

I injected on Friday and yesterday evening started with horrendous sulphur burps which are continuing but also I was on and off the toilet for several hours and have taken several Imodium. Are these normal side effects or could it be a tummy bug?

I can't find my information leaflet and I feel so grim I can't begin to search for it. I hope someone here can give me a virtual hand hold and tell me this settles down and gets easier.

Thank you

They're normal side effects that some people get on MJ.

Thank you for your reply. Have you been on MJ if so do they settle down?

Thank you for your reply. Have you been on MJ if so do they settle down?

I've been on MJ for 3 weeks (just started week 4 yesterday) and didn't get those particularly side effects but lots of other people do and they seem to settle down within a few days. Diet seems to make a difference with people saying that if they eat fatty foods, they tend to get a dodgy stomach.

I started MJ on this thread with some others and have found it very helpful:

I'm so sorry to see you're having a hard time. When well enough, think about what you ate before and after the injection as there may be something there you can improve. Please take dioralyte or electrolytes and if you're not passing urine, you may need A&E.

I find it's best to not eat anything too fatty or large portions. No alcohol too. This may or may not be the case for you.

Did you purchase from a recognised prescriber? If so please contact them tomorrow for advice. If not, don't buy anymore!

It may be that this medication isn't for you unfortunately.

I had two incidents like this - once after the second injection, and once after the fourth injection, the diarrhoea lasted one day each time. I’ve done five injections now and the others were all fine.
make sure you stay hydrated and just eat plain things like crackers if you feel like it.

ive not heard of anyone doing it but there’s no reason you couldn’t start on a half dose or slightly lower dose if you’re finding you’re very sensitive to it.
see how jt goes but it may well settle down as your body adjusts

I am just starting month 5 and have had some side effects which were not great but were manageable and short lived and the usually happened two days after injecting. I’ve had the sulphur burps, nausea, constipation and diarrhoea but thankfully not all at once . I have moved up a dose each month and have lost 2.5st which I am happy with. I find if I drink loads of water on the day I inject I don’t get any side effects and if I inject in my thigh i get less side effects than if I do it in my stomach. Holland and Barrett peppermint capsules help with burps and nausea and I would not take immodium going forward as you’ll get really bunged up. You eat less so it takes longer to move through your body. Good luck with your journey - it’s all worth it!

Try to avoid taking Imodium unless you absolutely unavoidably have to go out. If you’re able to stay at home and near a loo then you will have the quickest relief if you can let your body pass what is in your gut, even though it will be unpleasant for a while. The sulphur burps will continue until the food that is lingering in your stomach (due to the delayed gastric emptying caused by the medicine) has been digested.
