What reasons prevent you getting MJ?

I'm considering Mounjaro and have some preexisting conditions. Just wondering what sort of conditions stop you being eligible for private prescription by pharmacist?

I have diabetes type 2; had gall stone pancreatitis last year (gall bladder now removed) and hiatus hernia. (15.5 stone).

Anyone have experience to share?

I am getting to the stage where I’m seriously considering it. The things holding me back are:

What happens when you stop? Will I go back to square one, so it will have been a huge monetary outlay with no net gain at the end. (Yes, obviously I get the whole ‘well, if you go back to eating like you did before, but frankly if I was any good at controlling that, I wouldn’t be where I am.)

Will there be long term side effects?

Hate being constipated, and fear that’s a thing with these.

And, obviously, cost … although to be honest, given that my food spend on rubbish would presumably reduce, that’s actually the least of my worries. 😆

I'm a bit worried about the cost, as it could take me months as I have quite a bit to lose. Also about losing too fast leading to gallstones. But I could be over anxious.

Breastfeeding

For me it’s definitely that I know I’ll put the weight back on once I stop unless I fundamentally change my unhappy relationship with food.
70% of the time I don’t eat because I’m hungry, I eat because I’m stressed or bored or tired or happy or procrastinating or anxious or a multitude of other reasons. I think the only thing that is going to help me is therapy.

honkifyalikebeans · 28/07/2024 12:25

@Mysterweepinata - I honestly don't want to influence your decision but this was exactly me. I ate all the time, even if I felt sick from being full. I ate emotionally and I binged fatty foods. I had therapy, it helped a little. But mounjaro feels like it flipped a switch. It's not that it makes me feel full (maybe it does, I don't know) but that urge to eat, the need to fill sadness or anxiety with food - it's just gone. It's literally just gone. Now I'm eating when I'm hungry and have no other urge to eat. And I'm choosing healthy options because it's what I fancy (before I would almost be crying into a salad, now I'm actively enjoying them)

Concerns about side effects as I have other health issues and medications to consider

Mysterweepinata · 28/07/2024 12:44

‘Honk’ - that’s amazing and I’m happy that it’s working so well for you. What about when you have to come off though? Or are they considering licensing it for long term use? Also where do those emotions that used to be soothed by eating go now?

honkifyalikebeans · 28/07/2024 13:55

I don't know about the emotions- I had a difficult week emotionally the first week. Like out of the ordinary type of difficult. It just didn't occur to me to eat (honestly it was like I was someone else, I suddenly understand how other people are slim. Food is just fuel)

How will I manage when I finish. I don't know. Im hoping my habits will change slightly. It is a worry, and I need to establish a better routine. but I just couldn't loose the weight before. I'd tried for years and I couldn't. It was crisis point for me. I'd got so large I couldn't exercise, I couldn't walk up the stairs without taking a break. At least I won't be there.
