Endurance exercise and injections?

Hi

Im reading and researching. I’m 51 and at a stage where whatever I do I cannot shift the weight. AND I’ve pilled it on in the last 2 years which is making me miserable.

BUT I’m a slow runner. And while I’m slow it’s something I’ve worked hard at and wouldn’t want to “crash out”. My long runs are up to 2 hours. And I use sports energy gels on long runs of nature.

I run 3 times a week. One long, one short and fast and a gentle parkrun.

Would any of the injections kill my running? Because of lack of energy or any other reason? I’ve already worked out that I would use the injection on the day AFTER my long run so that by the time Long Run hits the injection has the lowest impact of the week.

keen to hear about others experience

Hello
As you may guess from my monika I am a cyclist and do some decent rides 2-3 hours is quite normal for me. Traditionally I have called myself fat but fit for a 63 year old.
I have been on MJ for only 5 full weeks so far but have lost around 26lbs. I do feel the lack of energy at times but not as much as I had expected. I have a protein drink around 30/40 mins before a larger ride and regular drinks (electrolyte plus carbs) during the ride. Then another protein drink after a long ride.
I am planning a weekend trip in September where I will be riding around 180 miles over 2 days and will shortly be increasing my ride to 4 or 5 hours on consecutive days. I would have to say I have a deal of anxiety about this level of exercise but my plan is to increase steadily and just see how it goes. My thoughts are that your running doesn't sound too bad and that if you just take it sensibly you will probably be fine.

Thanks both! Really helpful.

I'm between desperate to shift the weight (damn you 50s!) and fear of the side effects. I haven't got time to be flat out with tiredness at the moment. 😝

Tiredness aside. I normally Long Run on a Monday. Tuesday is a rest day. Weights on Wednesday. So Monday evening or Tuesday morning is looking favourite 🤔

Thinking about it I felt it may be better with a fuller explanation of how I do my longer cycles..
I use a Garmin with a heart rate monitor on and I try and stay on level 2. level 2 is a steady rate in which you should be able to carry out a conversation without getting too breathless. It is very much in the fat burning zone and theoretically you can carry out this level of exercise getting your energy from metabolising fat rather than relying upon glycogen use.
I am sure there is a running level 2 as well and would advocate trying to stay in that.
I would agree with @mounjarorocks that I don't have the same level of instant power as before but I am not persuaded that that is because I am taking Mountjaro but would presume it is because I am on a calorie restricted diet and the glycogen/carb fuelled energy is just not available to me.
I do have the protein sakes before and after exercise to try and restrict muscle loss and encourage fat loss instead.

Anyhow best of luck.
