Hello,

it’s my first thread so hope I’m doing this correctly lol

I have pcos and struggling to lose weight. I’m currently on Metformin to some what sort of help with the PCOS but it’s not doing much. It’s helped with weight loss in the past but hasn’t done this time round. I’ve tried orlistat but hated the the oily poops

im 94kg and 5ft 2

any advice/tips? Looking to start on Mounjaro

thank you

@PCOSmumma go for it!

See it as a tool to make lifestyle change easier, i.e. it will reduce your appetite so you are free to choose what to eat. It's liberating. Was there anything in particular you're wondering about?

There's lots of providers, I use Voy so will leave a referral code for you if you like- we both get a discount- £85 off so first order is £139. Coaching included, helpful app, bite size snippets of knowledge and motivation to keep you going.

@freemyboobs Thanks for replying!

i tend to snack a lot which I really need to stop. I can feel the weight piling on and I’m not happy overall. I’m starting to feel uncomfortable :( & now that it’s summer I can’t hide away and find it so hard dressing myself and feeling comfortable.

thanks for the code. How you finding it? Have you seen or felt a difference?

@PCOSmumma that's very familiar - mounjaro has just taken away my internal drive to eat and think about food so the idea of snacks just isn't one my body needs to entertain. It's really interesting. And I am someone who would always just search for things or nibble on whatever there was available. Realised the other day I bought the kids ice creams and didn't need to have a battle with myself about whether to have one or not- I just didn't buy one. It's hard to explain- for me it's taken away all sorts of negative psychology and internal drive to eat- so I'm calmer/more grounded (and thinner!) because of it. Sorry if that all sounds a bit evangelical!

I would say give it a try. I’m 7 weeks in and have lost 8kg so far, without so far changing my eating habits or exercise much. The most dramatic loss was in the first 3 weeks then tapered off to about 1kg a week which feels healthy. Nobody has noticed or commented on the loss so far but a lot of my clothes fit better and I feel the difference.

In month 1 I tried to give myself time to get used to it so didn’t try change anything. Then I got a flu from hell and was bedridden for 2 weeks. I’m feeling stronger now so plan to start working out next week and more focus on my diet.

What I can say so far is it’s been gamechanging for me. I was on 0.25mg Ozempic (Mounjaro not available in my country) for the first 5 weeks and last Saturday increased to 0.5mg. My endocrinologist is shocked how responsive my body has been to such a low dose.

I have borderline high insulin and low blood sugar (and Addisons Disease!) so don’t know if these conditions made a difference in my case. I do know from other MN threads there are lots of people who have lost way more faster, and several who’ve seen no change until they get to a very high dose.

What I’ve found as @freemyboobs said is that not only does it dim my appetite, it also removes constant “food noise” so I find I can eat a small, sensible amount and then not feel this compulsion to constantly snack. Snacking especially on junk is my biggest weakness so it’s working well for me.

I have had almost no side effects except very mild nausea after my first shot, and then constipation in week one which eased when I upped my prunes and water intake.

The most important thing I need to work on is really changing my diet and fitness behavior so by the time I stop Ozempic (15kg to go!!) I don’t need it as a crutch and don’t spiral back into the habits that got me here.

There are also a ton of very helpful boards with lots of good advice, encouragement and space for commiserations on MN. Good luck!
